Duncans Antiquity Neck?

Re: Duncans Antiquity Neck?

welcome to the forum!!

the duncan antiquitys are fantastic!! i have a set of the texas hots and a set of the surfers, both with the custom (hotter) bridge pups. the texas have more mids and less highs compared to the surfers which many think are the most like an early 60's strat pup. do you like a warmer tone or brighter? what do you use for an rig?

as far as a neck pup, the normal surfer or texas hot is meant for the neck, and for a true vintage like setup all three positions. there is a rw/rp option which when put in the middle position will give you humcancelling in the 2 & 4 positions. then there is the custom bridge which is higher output and a little less bright

Thanks for that info!

I like a brighter tone I guess...I want something similar to Under The Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

My rig changes often...so I'm probably going to get a Randall modular setup soon.

I think a set of the surfers with the custom bridge will probably be good for me. :)

Re: Duncans Antiquity Neck?

If you want a brighter tone you probably want alnico 5 Strat pickups and probably raised and staggered polepieces. That's what SRV would've used. The Antiquity Surfers that Jeremy mentioned would be just the ticket! Or you could go for the Duncan SSL-1's which are the production line version of the same style pickup. Both are superb. I use the Surfers and think they are the best but I've also used the SSL-1's and they are very similar. Lew

Hey Lew - if the SSL-1's are the poor man's version of the Texas Hots, is an APS similar to a Surfer?

Re: Duncans Antiquity Neck?

I have a Texas Hot set in one of my G&L Legacys, with the Power Bridge and RW/RP middle. I really like this set-up. The Antiquity neck is simply the best Strat neck pickup I think I've ever heard. Very warm, very rich.

Re: Duncans Antiquity Neck?

the Antiquities are great strat pickups - fat a warm, and fun to play because they are pretty touch sensitive

Chip,
it's the other way 'round:
SSL's and Surfers are alnico 5 pickups, and sound similar, and APSs and Texas Hots are alnico 2 pickups, and sound similar
