Duncans like Wolfgang pickups?

Out of curiosity, are there any Duncans that closely resemble the pickups found in the Peavey Wolfgang. I heard a rumor a while back that Duncan designed the pickups used in the Wolfie. Just wondering if there are any others that resemble the stock Wolfgang pickups.

Also, I heard that the EB/MM EVH had DiMarzio pickups that were based on the Tone Zone and something else for the neck, can't remember. Anyone recall that one? From what I gather based on previous threads, EVH's pickups got hotter as time went on. So I understand that the Wolf pickups are hotter than the DiMarzios in the EB/MM. Is this also true? I've never used the Tone Zone, but I believe it's a pretty hot pickup. I know the Wolfie bridge pickup is pretty hot also, just didn't know how they compare.

From what I've read, the EBMM EVH neck pickup was basically an Air Norton. :D

duncan had NOTHING to do with the wolfie pups
but i can tell you this the custom TB-5 in the bridge is worlds BETTER sounding
than the wolf bridge pup and the jb in the neck is perfect to mimic the neck wolf pup
as far as the EBMM dimarzio found in the axis or EVH sig guitar
the tone zone and air norton are so close you wont get any closer
the EVH bridge dimarzio is right in between a norton and tone zone
but the tone zone is closer overall
the air norton is a dead ringer to the neck evh dimarzio in all ways except the air norton in a little hotter in output

Does anyone know what magnets are in the Wolfie pickups? To my ear they sound like either ceramic or Alnico 5 perhaps. They definitely don't sound smooth enough to be Alnico 2.

alnico 5's
the bridge pup is
at 14.5K
and the neck is at 17K but has less output

Yep...The pickups were designed by Peavey in collaboration with Eddie Van Halen, Duncan had nothing to do with the design. There really is no Duncan that sounds similar. Personally, I found them to be too hot and trebly, but I know a lot of people really like them. they can usually be found on Ebay, or you can order them directly from Peavey.

Re: Duncans like Wolfgang pickups?

Well, I've got a US Wolfgang Special FLame Top and the pickups are ok, but they're definitely not my favorite. We'll see what I decide to do with them sometime later on. As far as hearing that Duncan had something to do with the pickups, I heard that from a guy I know. He's got a prototype Wolfgang with a custom red/black/white stripe paint job. He was told by the guy he got it from that it was a little known secret, but Duncan designed the pickups for Peavey. I had never heard this before and I really didn't know how much faith to put in it. What with it being hearsay and all.
