Dunlop Strap Lock Quality fading?

For me it is easier to remove the strap, I find the Schallers cumbersome

But they will never fail to hold your guitar and keep it from falling. Even if the locking mechanism fails, they will still keep your strap on your guitar (or, rather, your guitar on your strap).

Schaller/Dunlop is the same as the Coke/Pepsi, Chevy/Ford, and Gibson/Fender debates; both are great products. It just comes down to preference and familiarity.

They're not the same if Coke breaks your guitar and Pepsi doesn't.

For what it's worth, I switched from Dunlop to Schaller after my Strap-Loks randomly disconnected from the neck of my Les Paul a couple of times.

I have never lubed my Schallers in the 10-20 years that I have been using them. Every one still functions as when new.

Yeah, I've never needed to do any maintenance with my Schallers either. No failures or problems.

If the black ones are too dark for you try brightening up the tone by swapping with silver or gold. That oughtta do it.

I have Schaller on all my guitars and basses but I prefer a Grolsh washer on my Les Paul. Plus when you buy the washer you are getting a free beer :32:

IMHO the Grolsh washer works very well and doesn't take much longer to swap the strap between guitars or removing the strap when you put guitar in the case. And Schaller strap locks are getting expensive.

Dunlops on mine, I grab some decent wood screws and grind the heads down so they'll fit in the strap button, been doing that for years.

Most straplock horror stories involve user error.
You have to be smarter than the strap.
Ive used dual design straplocks for over 25 yrs with no issues.

Smart move I read a study that said using Schaller straplocks can cause painful recurring sores to form around your mouth.
