Dunlop Strap Locks

To anybody that uses the Dunlop Strap Locks...do you guys actually drill that 3/8 hole down into the guitar like the instructions say or do you simply use them like a strap botton with a lock?

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

You mean the flush mount ones? I got the original ones myself, but a friend of mine did the flush mount thing. Look kinda cool.

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

I use the originals also.....I've never seen the flushmounts, but would imagine they look cool........BUT I ain't drillin' no holes in my guitar!!!

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

the flush mount style look far far better...my luthier uses them flush mounted on most of his custom built solid bodies and they look real cool. regular mounted they just look way way out of proportion to me since those buttons are HUGE. i'll stick with schaller lol.

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

Schaller all the way for me, and no holes to drill so I can go back to stock easily (for collectible guitars... or just to keep them for me when I sell the guitar!). And if you buy a MIA Fender, they are pre-installed!

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

I use the dual design ones that can be used as locks or just normal strap buttons,so no.

The flush mount does sound cool though...

Yes, drill the hole. It's barely larger than the standard hole and will make your life much easier.

:eek2:

As far as the straplocks go, I've never had problems with Dunlop and 1/2 the time the hole is already large enough. No sense in widening it a teensy bit if that means less wood to hold onto.

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

That's an interesting looking instrument. I'll take my Schallers though, over just about anything else.....

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

I don't understand the question... but I'm planning to get recessed Dunlop Straplocks on my Charvel.

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

i had a pair of dunlops before i had the bigger ones not sure what they are called "dual locks" or something like that. I like thier hold but they looked kidna odd sticking out ike they do, so i switched to schaller and have been pretty happy with them thus far. bewteen the two i prefer shcaller, i think they are just as effective and look a little nicer.

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

I can't read at all;)
I have a dubious relationship with straplocks, the Schaller unscrew themselves from the strap, the Dunlops wears out, I think that I'll eventually do it like Eddie does, looks more solid:D

Re: Dunlop Strap Locks

im gonna the go zakk wilde route.

is it true that the schaller ones use the standard hole?
