Ok, time has come to finally install my dunlop straploks, however I won't have em on me until friday so i need to ask some ?s about it.. My first question is how long did it take most of you guys to install it, and what exact tools will I need? My second question is will I need to drill a new hole in my p-bass (fender mexican) in order to install them. Third is my current screws in my bass keep coming unscrewed, will replace the screws with the ones from the dunlop straplok thing help it, or do i need to do something else to make em stay. and my last question is how do i make sure the screws are stuck in???

Thanks!
Mitch

Re: Dunlop Straplok Question & Lock ?

Hey man, not to worry, it's not that bad of a project. I think you'll need a drill, along with an 1/8" bit, and a #2 Phillips screwdriver that has a good tip on it. You'll have to open up the holes with the 1/8" bit, then dip the threads of the screws in some dishsoap. Hold on to the body real good cause you'll need to get some leverage, and drive the screw in firmly. Don't strip-out the hole by over-tightening, though. Good luck.

All I used to install mine was a phillips head screwdriver. It might be different on a bass though I'm not sure.

Re: Dunlop Straplok Question & Lock ?

If the screw hole is slightly stripped out or if the duncan screw is slightly smaller than the OEM screw you might try this:
  1. Break a toothpick so it's about 2/3 the depth of the hole
  2. Cover the toothpick fragment in glue (Elmers or wood glue works fine) and shove it into the hole with the point facing out
The toothpick should give you enough "meat" for the screw to hold. It would probably work with the original screw as well if you decide that you don't really need/want straplocks.

Good advice, Aleclee. I used the toothpick trick on my PRS Santana SE. However, I did actually put wood dowels in my Les Paul since its such a heavy guitar. Both methods are pretty easy.
