Early Demartini= stock JB?

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

All the guys were pretty cool. However, my younger brother, who had met them a few times before, told me that Bobby was the most outgoing and he was right. Bobby and I spoke for awhile about my first RATT concert back in 1985 when I saw Bon Jovi (7800 Farenheit tour) opening up for RATT. The new bass player Robbie Crane was pretty talkative as well. However, I was obviously wanting to see Warren as he has always been one of my favorite guitarists.

It was VERY cool. I kept thinking about trying to walk off with an armfull of gear before anyone missed it. :scratchch

I hope they tour again sometime soon.

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

I just had my random good thought of the week. Why doesn't Seymour Duncan have a clip for the Custom shop pickups, etc., like the do the regular mass marketed pickups? I'd like to hear a good tone clip of the RTM and the 78 without some guys tons of reverb and delay on a YouTube clip.

Thoughts?

First time I saw them back in the day they had walls of Laneys.. First time Id seen Laneys.. Have always loved his tone and playing..
I miss Robbin, but Carlos is a beast too! Saw him back in the day with QR. Same concert matter of fact.

I always liked carlos,my buds would always talk s**t about him and i used to defend him:)

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

On the subject of Warren and Carlos I saw ratt open for black sabbath in early '84 just before the release of out of cellar and quiet riot open for zz top in '83 right as they were getting big. Talk about two mis-match concerts.

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

I was stoked when I heard Carlos was going to be in the band. I thought he was OK back in the 80s, but I saw Quiet Riot play in a small venue back in around 1992-3 time frame and I was blown away by him. I was right up by the stage and I thought it was one of the best shows I had seen. I wasn't expecting too much and I came away with a much greater appreciation for him. Frankie Banali was a monster on the drums with his giant baseball bat sized drum sticks.

I didnt think Carlos was the greatest back in the day, but I dug QR's hits.. (not bad mind you, but not Randy.. : ) But Carlos is very good in his roll in Ratt

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

By the way Ed, I came across a story recently about the Sunset Strip guitarists in the '70s and somebody mentioned how EVH had sold Robin Crosby some amps and cabs (some Marshall Plexis, I think). It's pretty cool how that era of guitarists seem to have been pretty good friends.

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

Warren has been using both the SLO, and the Diezel for the last few years.

There were some pictures floating around here of his 2010 touring rig.

Cool thanks for the info :)
poor robbin, tragic how the drugs destroyed him. he was a very good player. I found out he used the holdsworth duncan which is kinda like a JB in spec

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

On the earlier Ratt records, Warren used a '69 100-watt Marshall Super Lead. The amp that he got (apparently from Angela Instruments) ran with a very high transformer voltage of nearly 600 volts and thus truly ran hot. Because the amp ran so hot, Warren had to surround the amp with fans while recording and even then, usually only got a few hours of use before the amp would shut down.

When Ritchie Flieger and Mitch Colby went searching for the best-sounding Marshall Super Leads to use as a basis for the re-issue 1959SLP, one of the two amps that they sought out was Warren's amp. However, given the 600 volts that Warren's amp ran at, they couldn't safely use it as the basis for the re-issue amp.

You can read that story in Ritchie Flieger's book, "Amps!: The Other Half of Rock 'n' Roll".

So while Warren had a Laney endorsement back in the '80's, he didn't use them for recording.

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

Great thread! I just recently got into RATT after years of "putting them on the back burner". Warren is just an incredible player. I too miss Robbin - he was a big part of that early RATT sound.

I love the tones on Invasion, Detonator & Infestation the best. Aside from the JB/RTM pickups, I absolutely LOVE the tone Warren gets from the neck pickup! I belive he uses the Quarter Pound, is this correct?

Also, I currently have a Laney AOR 30 combo amp which, IMHO, gets VERY close to that early RATT tone. I just need to break down and install these pickups in my HSS Strat!

Re: Early Demartini= stock JB?

He has a QP in some, Classic Stack Plus in others, Performance singles in others. All on his web site on the guitars page.

My frankenstrat with a JB through my Vox AD50VT on the Soldano model nails the tone. Gotta lay on the reverb though to really get the ambiance of it. Sounds killer.
