ed roman guitars?

Re: ed roman guitars?

I could give a rat's @$$ about Ed ROman quality. He was a dooshrocket of criminal proportions.

The fact that he can reach out from the grave is not surprising. Good work? whatever. Personal and business issues? oh hell yes....

Re: ed roman guitars?

I do remember hearing horror stories of how he was an *******. But the dude is dead now so it doesn't really matter anymore.

there is a catalog of horror stories from people that have dealt with, or even tried to deal with, that guy.

most memorable Roman story is from a guy I know off the east coast. he told me he had a pal, that the first thing he did when he heard that Roman keeled over was call Roman's shop and ask for him. they told him that he had passed away. he'd call again and ask for Roman. they'd tell him he had passed away. he kept on until they finally commented that they had told him several times Roman had passed away. this guy said the he knows, but he never gets tired of hearing it.

Re: ed roman guitars?

I don't know who's running his business these days since his death, so I'd avoid it.

Good point. It could be some loud-mouth blowhard with a fourth-grade education and zero business ethics.

I'll bet any amount of money that you've never seen a Roman guitar in person and that you never spoke with, emailed or dealt with Ed on any level so I have to ask...where are you getting the info you used to make up your mind and make these statements??

Carefull Bob but you sound like a dooshrocket.

Wasn't your bum buddy Ace Frehley pals with him?

Let's get Godwin's law in this!

I bet you've never spoke with, wrote a letter to, and dealt with Adolf Hitler. What information do you have to assume he is a major-doosh?

Oh yeah, people actually recall their experiences with Hitler. Everything Ed Roman has ever posted/said online can be retrieved, and he has done a lot of bad stuff (the Music Man/Ernie Ball ordeal etc.) and A LOT of people have had bad experiences with him.

Re: ed roman guitars?

^ I went through an Arby's drive-through once when Adolf Hitler was manning the intercom. They gave me the wrong sandwich. Q.E.D.

I heard one of Hitler's co-workers, I think his name was Himmler or something, was a real Acehole too. He wouldn't wash his hands after using the bathroom and proceed to bag to-go orders. Grade-A-Doosh.

Re: ed roman guitars?

I bought a Les Paul Custom from Ed. It was a gorgeous guitar, but true to Ed's assessment over the phone it was a complete turd. After talking with him for a good half an hour he literally begged me not to buy it and told me he'd give me an extra sweet deal on a Heritage Class of 59. In retrospect if I'd have taken him up on that I'd probably still have that guitar.

Re: ed roman guitars?

I know these aren't the customs but, I bought a Baker B1 Bushwacker used. It's a nice guitar. He charges like $1350 for one though. The Michael Kelly Patriot Premium that I bought for $500 less than he charges is every bit the guitar the Baker is. I gave them to my boys for thier birthday.

I played one of Ed Roman's Bakers in a music store, it was nice but wasn't worth $1350- it had the same quality and build as a $700 import Schecter

Re: ed roman guitars?

I know ER sold Abstract Guitars - are they still around..?

One design I have is based on an embellishment of one of his models from the website.

I want to get it made.

Re: ed roman guitars?

after hearing your opinions ,I have decided not to do business with his company.
which company/luthier would you guys recommend for a custom guitar?

two guys within 100 miles of me have been getting attention from PGS, Doug Kauer guitars for kitchy vintage jobs like Fano and Jason Z. Shroeder guitars for really, REALLY beautiful LPs. Shroeder has some bridges he makes too that Stewmac carries.

doesnt hurt that his wife's a dish either.

http://kauerguitars.com/

It just occurred to me that you're probably wanting something pointy, right? I dunno if either of these guys are your cuppa tea then. Doesn't hurt link them though, maybe one of your others would want to check them out.

Yeah, she's not bad ;) and neither are the guitar finishes though, guitar-wise, if I want a PRS or a Gibson I'll buy a PRS or a Gibson.

And yes, something very spiky, 8 stringed and vicious. Like most of what I write.

im looking for a super strat ,not a PRS/gibson-inspired guitar.
what would you recommend?

Re: ed roman guitars?

Suhr or Anderson, these are the top 2 builders in the world in my opinion. Schroeder makes some top notch stuff as well but I haven't played it, I can speak for Suhr and Anderson from experience. The only guitar I have ever played that I liked better than my PRS Mira MT was a Suhr and the finest Strat I ever played was an Anderson... both exceptional and exceeded expectations in every area. If you have the money, that's where I would go to get my build.

Good luck!

Christian, Ed Roman is as indefensible as Bernie Madoff. [explitive deleted - it was uncool]

I'm not one to speak ill of the dead. The dude is dead.

There's a bunch of stuff on his site that always gave me the feeling that (he felt) if you weren't playing one of his guitars, your guitar $ucked.

I spoke to him just a couple of weeks before he died and he quoted me some craaaaaaaazy price...like 6 or 7 thousand dollars for a Newburgh Steinburger and I just didn't buy it.

I don't know...but either way...he's gone...so....

Oh well. Hopefully the dude found a way to rest in peace. People said some really nasty things when he died though.

Hitler's dead too you know. ;)

All joking aside though, I do see where you're coming from. His attitude in videos and his website sure left a bad impression though. Sometimes it is fun to read his rants though.
