Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

Re: Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

^^ The same vintage saw used on the Shark, no doubt; or Eddie trumps Chuck Norris.

Either way, don't care for relic jobs; I'd love to try one though, as it addresses what I don't like about LPs, namely the poor top fret access.

Re: Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

I like it. It's a slippery slope, isn't it, Tedward? Personally, that fusion with an LP is what I'd want for a custom-shop Jackson Soloist. Archtop, 22 frets -- not that far off.

Re: Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

actually, he didn't relic it, 'Fender' did. and it plays like a dream. it sounds like a les paul but with the feel of his Wolfgangs. Amazing tone, really. His version has the locking nut, but the regular version 'we' as mortals can buy has a regular nut and isn't aged/reliced (but they're thinking of offering this version to the public, too).

Re: Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

I wonder how it stacks up tonally to a Les Paul. Most doublecuts seem to lack the girth of a proper LP but the top horn is so high on these...

Re: Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

Love the relic job, weird top tho. Almost looks like flamed spruce. Not crazy about it with that paint color at all.

If its normal wolfie scale its probably going to be closer to a.PRS SC tonally than a Les Paul. I.e. more aggressive and more clarity.

No , it's really maple.

It sounds like a great r9 les Paul. A good les paul shouldn't be muddy, instead balance its fattyness and bite, like putting mustard on a steak sandwich to counter the fat. Gibson lost that. Fender gained it.oh how the world turned.

Everybody who was there and was allowed to play that baby said:yeah, this IS a les paul.

PS. It had the same Wolfgang pickups as the regular Wolfgang, proving those pickups worth: they sound great in both types of guitars, and not just basswood plus maple.

Good to hear... must try one soon...

Re: Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

Anybody else ever play a chord a certain way on a Les Paul with a PAF-ish bridge pickup and think, "Man, that sounds a lot like early VH."?

You're not helping. If they made a P90 version, I'd probably experience a full blown gas explosion.

Other thing I like is the low neck angle; seen so many new LPs with the bridge in the stratosphere.

Much of VH1 is his sen bodied Ibby Destroyer...very similar in tone to angood Les Paul. You can find roughly 3.36 million posts on the subject in the pickup lounge.

saw one with a gold finish and creme p90's. These guitars are real les paul killers, even more so than PRS cause PRS sound dead to me and these guitars are ALIVEEEEE ;) bordering on going out of control by the way, haha. I'm thinking of building EVH Wolfgang inspired les pauls. floyd roses, direct mount pickups, thin finishes, nice tops, and one with a mahogany back and neck and one with an alder back and maple neck. Even though I love these guitars, they are a bit too expensive for my taste. I think (I know!) I can make a guitar, just as nice, for half the dough.

Re: Eddie's new Wolf - Oppa Les Paul Style!

^^ Bastard :argh:, I just blew all the glass in my house.

Yeah, I bet they are pricey, but I suppose they're meant to compete with CS LPs and PRS single cuts, and Ed has to get a cut.

Hate to think what a reliced one would be, $5-10k?

be glad I forgot to take a pic. and yeah, they're not competing with CS LP's. c'mon. these EVH"s are in a completely different league. evh's fretwork is impeccable, playability amazing, lacquer is superneat, etc etc. but again: I can make a similar guitar with the same hardware and features for half the cost.
