Edwards Pickup Ring specs? replacing mirrored rings on an edwards john sykes lp.

ive got a buddy with an edwards john sykes lp and he wants to get rid of the mirrored parts for black. 3/4 of the way there, last on the list is pickup rings.

anyone know the screw spacing on edwards pickup rings? or any that would be a direct drop in replacement? hes looking for them to be the same height as the stock ones as well, just black.

use a ruler and check all dimensions. generic asian pickup rings are all over the place.

And you're gonna get the wrong measurements from someone else... then you're gonna whine about how we fooled you or something.

Look: bottom line is your friend's guitar might have unique pickup ring measurements for all we know. And I don't know of English is your friend's fifth language or yours, so I'll make sure to highlight the keywords here: unless HE measures his own pickup rings, whatever measurement WE GIVE YOU might be INACCURATE

I no longer have my Edwards Sykes.. I wish I did.. LOVED that axe!! If I had it, Id have taken a ruler and measured them for you. I believe Kherman has one.. Perhaps he will chime in..

Anyway, Axeman, I'm going to give you the answer that should have been given to you in the first place.

There are two sizes of humbucker ring generally available and commonly used. Other sizes tend to be proprietary and won't apply to your friend's Edwards.

More than likely what he has there will use what's known as the "import" size ring, like these.

Anything that will fit an Epiphone will fit an import guitar.

If it happens to use US spec rings (which IS possible), then he'll need these.

What you'll notice, once you convert the measurements, is that the US spec rings are a little narrower.

Also, your friend will need curved bottom rings since that's a Les Paul style guitar with a carved top.

Have your friend measure the width of his current rings and see which of those two sizes his match up to. Make sure the measurement is accurate because the two sizes are close and a quick eyeball could really give you either answer.

While Edwards is a respectable brand and probably quite consistent, with many lesser import brands the rings are inconsistent. I have seen 2 sizes on 1 guitar before. I would measure even if I got dimensions. Measure in mm.

How many have you seen? I agree that there are cheapo parts that don't understand what standards are, but if you're dealing with quality replacement parts for a quality brand then you're going to see the same standard.

I think the key to your point there is to not buy cheapo parts. Get something from a reputable manufacturer, like AllParts, WD, etc.

Different sizes on import? I'd guess 15 at least. (there were some real outliers. Also, I for several years repaired guitars for a pawn shop so my sample size is kind of huge.) I have at least 5 different metric sizes in my parts bin right now. Also, part sizes have drifted over time. 80's MIJ and 90's MIK stuff is all over the map. I am talking mostly what came as original equipment on guitars. Charvels, Jacksons, Schecters, agiles, Hamers, Ibanez, Fenders, Epiphones, etc. Which is why I say, save yourself a headache, and measure before buying rings. It is infernally aggravating to get the wrong rings to restore or repair a guitar.

I have in my drawer at least 3 sizes for import guitars (not included a variation with more rounded inner cutouts), no to mention some with Gibson standard, Bill Lawrence own standard and a pair of flat metal ones with a bigger cutout from Starfield/ibanez with otherwise standard screw spacing. Even SD Triple shots are some cents of millimeters larger than Gibson causing troubles with the scratchplate and the screw holes (is this their solution to vaguely fit on Gibson and import with the same size???!?
