No, they are real flames.

Most Edwards are polyurethane (still better than polyester used on MIM, Epis and even lower-end guitars), BUT some have a thin lacquer (nitro) top (back and sides being poly).

That specific model is called the E-LP-105LTS. It comes with a 59/Custom set, which is the perfect choice for this guitar, IMO (assuming you don't have a set of real PAF's!).
