Hey could people put clips of like egypitian sounding things. I just cant get enough of them, like that part in nothing remains O MY GOD THATS AWESOME.....

its like this

then go back down the thing in reverse. It's a simple but sweet lick. you can put that fingering patter on different frets to get difference things, for example, with the first note on the 1st fret, its got an awesome creepynees to it.

Check out the link to MY MUSIC and listen to "Mummy Dance". It is a big file but very middle-eastern sounding.... It is an interesting tune, a little long. The fade solo was a one take and really sounds like Jake E Lee IMO...

If the major scale is TTSTTTS, then an example of a westernized arabian scale might be:


C C# E F G G# B C


It's slightly different from a minor harmonic scale.

There's also the metal band Nile which draws influence from egyptian mythology, and the influence of the region's music can be heard in some of the guitar solos and instrumentals. They're more inspired by egypt than influenced by its music however.

Sorry i have no clips, but 'War' by Joe Satriani always sounded very egyptian to me. Maybe its the use of the Phyrigian Mode scale, sometimes refered to as the "Egyptian" scale.

try using the egyptian scale ;) sounds amazing. also listen to murrays solo in Nomad. it doesnt get more arabic than that. you could charm a cobra with that one

The thing is that Egyptian scales and middle eastern scales in general often use microtones. The only way to achieve microtones on a guitar is with really accurate use of bends or by use elastics to add additional frets to the guitar.

nothing beats metal with egyptian-esque riffs! MARTY FRIEDMAN style!!!
i love using middle-eastern tinged scales in riffs but especially in solos. it really adds that spice to a song. the scale that I frequently use is the Ahaba Rabba version of the Jewish scale. Marty has that Ahaba Rabba feel in his solos as well... i guess its a Jewish thing.:dance: ;)

For an old school hard rock example, check out Ritchie Blackmore's solo on
"Stargazer" on Rainbow's "Rising" album. He's using a Phrygian dominant scale
(B C D# E F# G A) - (5th mode of E harmonic minor).
