hey guys, im looking for some info on this pedal. The only flanges i've had experience with were the boss bf2 & 3 and i didn't really get along with them too well. The electric mistress has always intrigued me along with the deluxe memory man, but all my local stores carry are boss/ digitech/ line 6. Are the reissues really that different from the originals? How tweakable is the electric mistress? I've always loved flanged tones, but could never get the tone i heard in my head to come out of my speakers.

I've heard the original Electric Mistress is different from the new Deluxe ones. Howard Davis can always mod a Deluxe to original EM specs. Also, try and look around for an old Boss HF-2 Hi Band Flanger. It's very subtle, warm and analog.

Both old and new ducks in volume when engaged...but it can be overcome, as for the sound, very trippy and fun!

the volume drop could be an issue for me, the other flange i was looking at was the MXR Evh model. Might just try that one out instead

I just ordered a new Evh Flange, I'll let you know how it turns out.

On the other hand, I owned a vintage mistress and I absolutely loved it, wish now I had never let it go.

The EH Electric Mistress is one of my fav flangers ever..I've had several over the years both original and reissues and love them both!

I never tried an Electric Mistriss - I was always under the impression that it could do more and have a different sound(s) when compared to the typical flangers. But my favorite Flanger has to be the little yellow ibanez one, both the reissue and an original I played through an original Fender Pre-CBS blackface Pro Reverb and a Sonic Blue '56 Closet Classic Strat, one of the best tonal experiences I've ever had! So if you decide you are not too fond of the EH EM, I'd reccomend the Ibanez one.

I dig the Electric Mistress a whole lot...

Most stomp flangers sound kinda weak & watery... kinda sit "on top" of the tone rather then becoming a part of it. The Boss pedals & such... Line 6 is a major bummer. Not very musical.

Takes up a helluva lotta real-estate on the pedal board though!

My original MXR is WAAAAY thicker & just as crazy with a whole different texture.

Both are kool.

I'd LOVE to have an ADA or something that sounds like it!!!

I've got a vintage Dlx Electric Mistress, vintage MXR, Boss HF-2 and Ibanez DFL. My favorites are the Deluxe Electric Mistress and the DFL. (HF-2 os a great subtle flanger too, but I like the Ibanez a bit more) The DEM is a completely different type of Flanger than the other three though, it's tough to describe, almost chorusy, at it's more subtle settings it gives a great movement to your sound, I love it.

(For the DFL, think Tool's 46&2 and RATM - Wake Up)

the 'filter matrix' switch on the Mistress is kinda hip...

Allows the flange to "stop" at one point in the sweep... gets some odd tones, semi-ring mod, filter bandwith type things happening.

Semi-useless most of the time for any "real" playing, but it does get used a fair amout while overdubbing & layering tones...

My Deluxe Mistress is a little hissy, but it's cool for slow-rate flangey sounds; go into an overdrive or fuzz for retro cool solos. I even use it on bass for a Jaco/Anthony Jackson attitude!

how did the two differ from each other? did you ever notice the volume drop, and was it really that noticable?

I have the original.. and the biggest difference between the re-issue is the fact that it is quieter w/ the 3 prong AC versus my 2 prong AC.

The Deluxe Electric Mistress is the flanger that I swear by. I have had them all, but the mere fact that the Filter Matrix can get interesting tones... I have also used the Filter Matrix for unique guitar solo sounds...

There is not really a noticeable drop because the majority of the sound change is due to frequency response... I do not have a level drop...

I've had originals and newer ones. I found the difference in tone to be negligible. Both had a slight level drop but I always found that with the flange on the tone cut through (or stood out) the mix a little better so I'd call it a wash.

I like the electric mistress quite a bit and it is completely different that the boss ones, however it does have a slight drop in volume when engaged. My only real beef with this pedal it that it is frickin huge!

Thanks for all the replies dudes, i'm trying to find an electric mistress used somewhere before i drop the cash on a new one, but im definatly itching to try one out.
