EHX switch repair

The footswitch in my EHX Glove is acting up. I'm handy enough with a soldering iron, so I'm gonna try replacing it if the problem persists. However, I never liked the swithc to begin with - far too much play before it actually connects and then theres this huge resistance before it actually clicks. So might as well look for something a little bit smoother. Any suggestions?

You'd have to look inside to find out what kind of switch it actually is.

Edit: Actually those are from Joyo... But they're exactly same switches.

If the Soul Food I had is any indication, the modern nano-sized EHX pedals have a 9-pin switch soldered to a small PC board. The board also holds the buffer/true bypass switch. You’ll need to open the pedal up and see exactly what’s in there before you buy.

Small Bear Electronics has a wide selection of replacement switches and other parts, including EHX-specific bits.

Well, I know what TYPE of switch I need. What I'm trying to suss out if there is any brand that makes a better switch than the one currently in there. Something with a more linear travel path so to speak.

Haha....they do use horrendous switches!
Never got the appeal of those 3dpt switches, no matter how expensive they are, they will crap out sooner than later!
Plus the mechanical noise is annoying....it is a lazy way of doing things!

I'm still on my L plates for electronics. Is there a way to get true bypass with another type of switch?

There is a 3pdt soft click switch that's made in Japan. They are about 15 bucks if you can find them (I think *****es Love My Switches carries them, or used to). But they have direct solder "cups" so they likely won't mount in a pcb. I've never used one but they are supposed to be nice and more durable. Other than that, good luck. Green, red, blue or black cased, those 3pdt's just seem to be pretty much the same. I've got one that's starting to go in my "klone" that I need to swap out.

There is a company around here that sells the ones with different coloring on the lower assembly. Can't tell what's different about them, though.

To anyone picking on EHX for that switch -Remember, EHX was the originator of the affordable guitar pedal -before them, everyone was trying to make and charge for studio level effect boxes for guitarists.

Cheaper components? they invented that!

They're just keeping true to their nature here

I've had issues with EHX 3PDT switches in the past, as well as some of the MXR switches. Be very careful when de-soldering the switch leads from the PCB, the circuit pads do have a tendency to lift off of the PCB if too much heat is applied for too long....

I had an issue with the switch in an Earthquaker Devices pedal right out of the box. I wouldn't be surprised if all the big pedal manufacturers source the same foot switches from China.

I have a decent supply of stomp switches that I got for cheap. Most have a medium blue colored plastic case. When I ordered parts for my klone pedal build I added an Alpha branded switch figuring it may be somewhat better quality than the cheap no-names I had in stock. Go figure that it's the Alpha in the klone that's on it's way out.

I have one on my EHX I'm going to replace. I have an intermittent problem where sometimes my B9 pedal doesn't switch from bypass to engaged. I sent it back to EHX and they could not replicate the issue despite me being able to replicate the issue the instant it was returned.

The real issue for your pedal is EHX, Alpha, Stew Mac's. Parts Express 3PDT 9 pole Guitar Pedal switches are all the same switch made by the same contract mfg in China -no matter what it's called it's the go to for true bypass.

There aren't a lot of great options that I can find if I wanted to upgrade it. -Just do a good job replacing it with the OEM part.
