EL34's! nothing beats that sweet crunch. and getting enough low end is never a problem, my bass knob is set at 12 o'clock and it still rattles the house...
I really do love them both. H*11, I love EL84's also. I can't imagine not haveing each as a choice.
Currently, my favorite amp uses 6L6's, so I will have to go with that. But, each tube has it's merits. 34's have a great midrange honk, 84's distort easily and create a wall of distortion, but not as thick or rich as other tubes. 6L6's give you the bottom end and cleans that 34's usually do not, but rob a bit of the midrange.
It's all good. Love the variety. Don't be hating on a tube.
I have come to prefer EL34's since putting them in my Tremoverb. Much fuller, richer sound. The recto is already a bass heavy amp so I didn't notice the typical loss of bottom end when switching from 6L6's to EL34's. The cleans are also much warmer and not as shrill.
I like 'em both, but prefer EL-34s (actually, I prefer EL-84s out of the 3 )
EL-34s can do great cleans and overdrive. The overdrive is usually very punchy and cuts through the mix while it can still supply some very good cleans.
