el84 tubes

i know el84 tubes are smaller then el34's, are there any el84's on the market that are bigger in size then normal???????? thanks for your time to answer my post,

To what end? I've owned two EL84 amps. They went through tubes quickly. They all pretty much looked the same to me.

EL84s are all small socket tubes to my knowledge. You have to buy the Yellowjacket adapters to make them work in the larger octal sockets. Most other tubes use the standard, larger socket.

I'm not sure I understand... Why do you want a bigger tube? Do you mean just a bigger bottle? All EL84's ive ever seen are within a mm or 2 of each other. If you mean you want EL84's that work in a 8 pin socket instead of a 9 pin that wont happen unless you use an adapter.

i hear a lot of guys who rate el34's over el84's, are there some makes/size of el84's that would be on there way to sound like el34's ???????
can you get el84's with a bigger/ larger bottle ??????
why does el34's sound different to el84's ??????
i have a vox ac15 handwired amp with el84's i want to check out all options first, before i buy another amp,

Despite similar nomenclature 84's and 34's are nothing like each other. The size of the enclosure is only related to what goes inside and as it's a vacuum has nothing to do with the sound.

As to why they sound different...That's a book and personal quest we all must undertake, not a forum post.

As for checking out options...I suggest you do so by playing many amps and deciding what YOU like. It is quite likely you'll have to own many amps, experimenting as you go until you settle on what really works for you.

Thats an awesome book! that book got my lust for tube amps roaring back in 96 or so
