Electric Amp + Throwback Overdrive/Boost

Raging BB Gunologist
Although I occasionally get asked for clips displaying the Electric tone I don't actually get to post clips very often as I don't really have a decent way to record them, but today must've been my lucky day as the clip turned out alright.

The track is dry amp, then delay, then ODB on, then ODB off.

Gain is about 2.5 on the amp and my guitar's volume is backed off to around 7.5. Master volume is up around 7.

Re: Electric Amp + Throwback Overdrive/Boost

Hey, i was meaning to ask you (is that correct english ?) . . .

. . . why does your amp (in unboosted mode) sounds sooo "Marshally-gritty", to the other Electric Amps that i have heard with gain.
Do you have a stock 120W unit ?
The other clips that i have heard, (mostly from the Doom Room) is of a much smoother dirt tone, almost Kyuss like !

I like your tone, and that is why i ask how you got it !
Is it mearly an ishoo of diff EQ'ing between the various owners ?

Thanks
James

I'm running the gain down around 2 to 2.5 on the gain knob with the MV up around 7 or 8. Based on the other clips I've heard I suspect most other dudes are running their gain up around noon.

I like to keep the amp gain low to keep punch in the signal (I don't want it to smooth out too much). Then, if I need more distortion I'll kick on a boost to bring some more treble into it.

Also, I'm pretty sure P90s figure into the equation somewhere. They're a little more gritty than humbuckers.
