I had a guy tell me at the local music store where I'm now living that they are the same tube just labeled differently?? is this true or not?? and if so what other tubes are the same but labeleed differently??

the EHs i've tried so far sounded totally different and looked different than JJs. I don't think that's even remotely true.

JJ's are made in the Slovak Republic (Czech as we know it) I'm pretty sure EH's are made in Russia. Sounds like he's barking out of his arse.:13:

I know some Mesa pre-tubes that I got were EH for sure.

As stated JJs are made in the Czech Republic, in the old Tesla plant IIRC. I think EHs are made by Sovtek for EH.
I can't guarantee either statement other than the JJs are made in the CR and EHs are made in Russia, but that's what I seem to remember reading somewhere.

Sovtek makes many rebranded tubes. The stock groove tubes in my HRD (If you look close enough) has Sovtek 5881 printed on in grey underneath the Big White Fender GT 6L6 marking. But JJ is a different manufacturer in a different country.

I don't know if they are relabeled JJ's? But JJ makes a long plate version of the ECC83. Look at the tube and see if the plate is longer.
