I have one and it is cool. I find that it has a bit of the "wet blanket" effect on tone but not enought that it stops me from using it. $35-40 and I'd grab it if not wait for an MXR IMO.
I think they are very lush and rich. Different than the Phase 90 which is a little more shallow ( not in a bad way) For swirly complex stuff I would go smallstone. For rockin ala EVH the 90 is the way to go. Have you plugged it in? I would start there.
I have an original early EH Small Stone and I Love it...Almost close to a Univibe but lighter in it's "whirring" action...The phase 90 has a different vibe than the SS also...
I bought the small stone (Russian, black w/red lettering). I used to have a Sovtek MIG 50 amp that I miss so much, and it reminded me of that so I had to get it. The pedal sounds great, very swooshy and kinda creepy :saeek:

John I used to have an old silver one with pale blue writing... I wish I had it to this day, your comments are dead on, the rate control was also a different taper, it didn't start to get fast until about 2o or so.
Between the SS and the 90, I'd go SS as you'll get more versatility from it, and the faster setting are more useful as well. With that colour switch on low and about a medium speed, some overdrive, and a good amount of 'verb, I used to get some haunting Trower tones ... :cool3:
