If you get them from a good source, ( really important) I think they sound very good. Have a nice mid crunch to them. In a bright amp they can be a bit too bright... I have them in a couple of my Traynors and they sound great.

I had some in my JSX head and they sounded pretty damn good. Then, when one started down the path to the Dark Side, I got some Sovtek Ruby EL34's and holy sheep s**t Batman! More crunch and sustain. Only a slight hiss at high volumes. Not a real problem. But I would still get more EH EL34's. The more crunch and sustain could've been attributed to the new tubes. My 2 pennies.

My Splawn had 4 Mullards in it, and I thought it sounded too smooth!
I swapped the inner pair for EH, and they added just the right amount of nastiness!!

I just retubed and rebiased my mesa for EL-34s and i went with the EHs. First impressions are that they crunch very well and have a tone with more bite than other EL-34 amps ive played. They also seemed to clean up better than i thought they would.
-My experiance with EL-34's is limited. I couldn't tell you if i'm enjoying the EL-34 tube itself or the fact that it is a EH, but I'm really happy with my choice.
