Eleven Rack vs. POD HD vs. AxeFX

Re: Eleven Rack vs. POD HD vs. AxeFX

Can't comment on the 11 Rack or the AxeFx but I use an HD500 for my practice rig and I love it. There are some shortcomings but for the price it can't hardly do any wrong by me. I'd love to get a DT25 to hook it up to and see what I can make it do.

The most organic sounds I have gotten out of any modeler so far.

I have the Pod HD Pro(the rack version of the HD500). I will copy & paste what I just finished posting on another forum on my opinion of the Pod HD:

I have a Pod HD Pro right now that I got in a trade. For now, no, it's not better sounding than the Eleven Rack. It also isn't better sounding than a GSP1101 or RP1000. It has a LOT going for it, though. A lot of great cleans(all modelers for me), relatively easy to edit on the unit, itself. HORRIBLE black on black front panel means you have to have a light behind you facing it(who's the wise-guy at Line6?). Will soon by trying other people's presets but all indications are that the distortions are not going to get better. Plastic, plastic, plastic. Sound familiar, Ross? What a shame. It is better in the distortion area than the Digitech, though, in that it doesn't have that thinner sounding Digitech tone. It's fuller, thicker. You know, that compressed thing we've both noticed on the Digitech stuff.

I was hoping for my All-In-One unit solution with this thing. You know, 11R with no harmonizer, having to use ProTools, lousy editor at that. Neither of those two has the ALMOST PERFECT Digitech Control 2 foot controller.

It's either going to be back to the GSP1101 with the C2 or Eleven Rack and some other foot controller. Both would have to be used with a separate midi'ed unit for harmonizer since I'm still not happy enough with the bettered 1101 one. Let me tell you, that C2 is a huge favor for the 1101. What a no-brainer for a foot controller. Why can't Line 6, Boss and other see that?

Oh, it's not a rack like I prefer but I have got to get a hold of a Zoom G5. That sounds really promising. Again, lousy foot control setup. Only the RP1000 and even the RP500 with fewer switches make for better foot controlling. Digitech could be so great with their great ideas but they ruin it with other mistakes.

Like I said, hook up a computer and use IRs instead of the built in speaker cabinets. It opens it right up.

Also, be sure to update it to the latest firmware.

Other people's presets are a place to start, but I wouldn't use them right out of the box. All of the stock presets show off the effects, but nobody in their right mind would use them. The first thing I did after downloading the firmware was to wipe out all the stock presets and replace them with user presets that were in the genre that I prefer playing in, and tweaked from there.

Re: Eleven Rack vs. POD HD vs. AxeFX

Thanks for replying. I own the Eleven Rack and know that I need to load ProTools into my computer(Windows) to use it and it works. I too, however, dislike it. I still think we can't know for sure what Stratman meant by

He didn't say I programmed my 11Rack using ProTools on my Apple MiniMac. Yeah, it probably is as you say and he was using ProTools on the Mac but my wishful thinking was hoping that, since he didn't mention ProTools, that he had found some program already included in the Mac(or that he downloaded) that worked as an editor for it.

There is no other editor for it. You can edit on the front panel, but you can't back up your presets without the editor, which requires Pro Tools.

Yes, I know. That is ridiculous, isn't it? It's them forcing you to use ProTools, get used to it and then have to upgrade for hundreds. They're on crack if they think I will be ugrading. I got it used and will use the editor for two things and two things only: back up presets and download other people's patches. Yes, I also work on my own patches.

Oh, I also have the GSP1101 and have used it longer than the other two but, believe it or not, I've never loaded IR's. I've been on the latest firmware since it came out on mustbebeta.com. I know all about the unit, about Stan Ripley, etc. I have the matching Control 2 foot controller and it's the BEST laid out foot controller out there. Whoever designed it and whoever accepted the form factor at Digitech allowed for the best out there. I almost want to keep using the 1101 based on that alone.

My two biggest problems with the GSP1101 are the thin or compressed sounding core tone(yet really good sound, if you can understand) and the lousy harmonizer(which was worse and became just usable with a firmware upgrade). The 1101 is the best bang for the buck out there. Now at used prices it's crazy not to buy one to at least audition for a few months.

The core sound, so far, seems to be best on the Eleven Rack but I will see what I get when I add the expansion pack(no money for it). I will have to add a separate harmonizer for either the 1101 due to it's bad one or to the Eleven Rack because it DOESN'T HAVE ONE!!!! Argghhh. That's another thing that frustrates me. A harmonizer is common on these things and I use it A LOT!!!!!!!!

By the way, many and I mean many guys have said the IR's didn't help or that it didn't help much. Of course, to your taste, the IR's could be a big improvement as it might even be to me. I have to eventually get around to loading some up.

I am pretty happy with HD500 sonically. I have never been fond of any Digitech products sonically and I haven't tried the Boss GT's. I probably should because I loved the Amp Factory, that thing recorded so well.

I still miss my Vetta II which while it had some issues was an absolutely awesome piece of gear.

Old news…. Yes, I use Protools with my 11 rack.

I also use Protools for backup music to fill in when we don’t have particular instruments on hand (e.g., strings and horns)
