EMG 81 question

Don't know much about these pickups. Why would someone use TWO 9v batteries in a single pickup guitar? I have a three pickup EMG set and it only uses one 9v, like a few of the other guitars I've had over the years.

Re: EMG 81 question

i've got the 18V mod on my schecter (85 bridge 60 neck) and didn't really notice a change in tone. mod is supposed to add some warmth and boost but there isn't that much of a difference.

Re: EMG 81 question

I use the 18v setups. It's less of a change in sound than it is a change in feel. Slightly more headroom in the preamp means slightly more dynamics before you compress (ie, the flat/unnatural feel that some people get from EMGs).

Re: EMG 81 question

i mean, I want to know about the 60 in the neck, not in the bridge.
81 in the bridge i know pretty well.
Q:)
i know that kirk uses 8181 right?

Hetfield uses the 60/81....you can here it in the clean electric sounds on that track.

Hey, thanks a million everyone. That was sure some quick info! I was looking into getting a guitar, but I didn't know if this was some jury wrigged thing with no basis or what.
