What are the differences ?

Re: EMG- P81 vs Seymour SP-903b

P81 is 81 in P-90 size. So it's a high output humbucker. SP90-3 is high output P-90 (single coil).

Re: EMG- P81 vs Seymour SP-903b

So im guessing the Seymour is better for Traditional Classic Rock/Hard Rock ?

Re: EMG- P81 vs Seymour SP-903b

For the music you play, I'd go with Duncan. That said, I won't recommend SP90-3b but medium output ones: SP90-3n or SP90-2n. Yes, put the neck version in the bridge position. I've used both. 90-3n has more low end (chuggy) and more aggressive, suitable for bright sounding guitar, while 90-2n has more high end (cutting in the mix) and more dynamic, suitable for warm sounding guitar.

Whats wrong with the SP90-3b [bridge] ?

If you don't play clean a lot and not after greater picking dynamic, then it's fine. Dirty territory is its forte. Excellent rock pickup.

I got a Guitar Fetish Gold Foil P-90 A-5 @ 6.8K, its a great sounding pickup with Killer Harmonics but not much of a bottom end. Im afraid if i put the Seymour SP90-3b in there im going to lose something i have now but it also could be really great sounding.
Overdrive sounds are my Forte, not much of a clean player.
Ive mostly used SD pups for 35 years, never had a bad one except for the "screamin Demon" that was a letdown. The SH-5 Duncan Custom is my favorite so im hoping this SDP-903b is along those lines.

Nice goldtop!

It's funny that Custom is your favorite hb. I've used all SD soapbars except the Antiquities. They surely aren't equivalent, but in my experience, SP90-3b shares similar quality to Custom: tight bottom end and edgy (while SP90-2b reminds me of JB, effortlessly cuts through the mix - just my 2 cents).

I'd say SP90-3b is the obvious choice among SD soapbar lines for you.

Nice guitar! The EMGs are active and need to run on batteries. I find the 81 to be a little bright and the 85 to work better for me in the bridge with the 81 or a 60 in the neck. The Duncan seems like the better choice for you. :)

Pickup is here but the guitar is @ the Luthier getting a fret level. I hope to get it back today and drop in the new pup. Will report back.

So the old GF Gold Foil A-5 sounded good was really brite & not much bottom, could never get the tone knob off 1 or 2. The Seymour SD-P-903b however is the reverse, Fat, Chunky, very full sounding & i have total range access on the tone knob, still plenty of great sounding Harmonics & Tone. Looks like its a keeper.

Re: EMG- P81 vs Seymour SP-903b

GFS Goldfoil Soapbar isn't a real P-90 I suppose? I have its humbucker sibling in the neck position of my T-style guitar: low output and clear sounding with firm low end. It pairs well with Phat Cat in the bridge.

Sounds the Duncan works for you. Glad to know. I have SP90-1n in the bridge of my Firebird style guitar now and play it on JCM 900 SL-X. P-90 + mahogany guitar + Marshall = eargasm. Happy new pickup day!

Notice anything different ?

My guitars with Humbuckers sound different to me now. The P-90 is Big & Bold kinda Raw & more of everything. Still like all my guitars.
