Does anyone have any experience with the EMG SPC (strat presence control)
It claims to give your emg Single coil a Humbucker-esque tone and that it fattens it up..I wanted to Know because Im planning on upgrading my first guitar, an aria srat copy, and i want to go with EMGs so as to somewhat colour it a bit so it's natural(laminate alder) is covered up a bit..I wanted to go with a more traditional look to it so i wanted to know would putting a single coil EMG in the ridge and using the SPC give it a fatter more humbucker like tone, ??

Cheers guys.

Re: Emg-spc

y2stevo, I have experience with the emg spc and the exg and emg sa pickups. I have used them both on the same guitar and it does give it a sort of humbucker tone. I would reccomend getting the exg (midboost) also. I used it in a laminated guitar. Emgs seem like they are not as picky as other pickups with what kind of wood you are using. I have heard people say that you could put emgs on a piece of plywood and it still sounds good.
Here are the cons,
I had to buy three different sa and exgs until I found ones that worked properly. I even sent them back to emg and they said they were fine. They were not fine. Maybe the readings on their meter were fine but, in an actual guitar they were not. I hope this helps you out. Good luck!!!!!!

Re: Emg-spc

Thanks Mr.Jeremy :laugh2:

I was listening to the soundclips on the EMG site and from thwm i Can tell that I really like the SA's They seem to have the best balance of good cleans and good Dirty,as opposed to the 81 or 85 which cleans dont sound so good,I also just tried an 81 Yesterday and wasnt very impressed with the cleans..

Is the EXG more of a Mid cut while the SPC is a Mid Boost? If so i think i shall go for the SPC as i'd like to be able to fatten up the pups for rhythm and mabye some lead..

Thanks

Re: Emg-spc

I was under the impression that the EXG didn't actually cut the mids, but boosted the bass and treble.

Re: Emg-spc

I think you should go for the exg and the spc. I had both on a guitar. I really liked them turned up together alot better than just on of them turned up. Plus your guitar will be that much more versatile.

Re: Emg-spc

True..I just noticed the 89, Its the 85 and SA all in one..Although i Would like it to look all strat like with an s/s/s mabye the extra versatility of the 89 would make up for that..After all its all about the music eh..??

Yeah i think your right i'll go for both of them..I just looked at the prices of EMGs and dang there not very cheap..I dont think i could affore 'em soon unless i get em second hand. But mabye get the EXG and SPC new..

And yes i believe the EXG does boost the high and bass sorry bout that..
Thanks

Re: Emg-spc

I might have a spc and an exg somewhere in my parts if you are interested. I will have to test them first though.

Re: Emg-spc

Well if i can raise enugh money..At the moment I have to invest into speakers for the 2x12 cab im (in the planning process :laugh2: ) of building, although i could sell of the current pickups in it (l'il Screamin' Demon, 2 duckbuckers) and they would easily pay for them..

So i may see and let you know later

Re: Emg-spc

I would be willing to trade for the pickups. Interested?

Re: Emg-spc

Well im not sure about the L'il demon because i have a friend interested in it already but the two ducks you could have, but im not 100% that he wants the demon yet..

Re: Emg-spc

Let me know when you are ready. I am going to test the spc and exg (probally tomorrow) to make sure they work fine. I will let you know also.
