Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

Someone here on the forum has a Reignmaker.

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

I too am digging the concept of the Reignmaker

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

I could've sworn you made that exact topic a while back and that I replied to it...

Anyways: I've had the reignmaker for about 3 years in an open back 1x12.

It's not a mid-heavy speaker compared to my governors but it sounds quite good and well-balanced. I do prefer the governors for brit-style amps but it is still a very good speaker.

I'd recommend it for sure.

As far as the attenuation goes, it works well enough. You do get some darkening at higher attenuation levels but as it's been said a thousandntimes, some of this is due to your hears as well.

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

i did start a thread about it a while back but finding these things to try in a store is damn near impossible. im more worried about the tone of speaker at full volume than attenuated. hows the bottom end? i was hoping someone has tried both the maverick and reignmaker and could help me pick one. might have to bite the bullet and just go for it

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

So let me se if I understand this

I can take two of these speakers in a 2x12

And run a good 50 watt amp at a much lower volume of say a 20 watt practice amp?

And it will sound like the fifty watt just a bit darker?

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

hmmm
I wonder how it would sound in my 80 watt Laney
I could finally get the volume over 2

and it would be safe for a Tube amp?

because I love my Carvin Belair
but it is SOOO loud for playing at the house

EDIT
looked them both up
they are both 75 watt speakers
and cant replace my HH speaker in my Laney
but.... my Carvin may be the one

so does any one know the difference between the Maverick and the Reignmaker?

Can't help you with the difference between the 2 speakers guys... Sorry.

Jeremy: the bass on the reignmaker is quite good. Not woofy but far from aenemic as well. As I said, to my ears, it's quite a balanced speaker, especially with no attenuation. The mids aren't over the top, the bass is good and the highs are clear.

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

lol...im gonna wait till you buy one jeremy, then ill see what you think before dropping any coin!

Surgeon...are there any speakers out there that you reckon the reignmaker can compare to tone wise?

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

I'm afraid that I'm not the right person to ask... I haven't tried many speakers as the emi governors and wizard are pretty perfect for me and don't feel the need to experiment more.

However, I've heard somewhere (no quote sorry) that they were close to a greenback.

It would make sense to me that they would be voiced pretty evenly to make them good all-around speakers as they offer only one model of each category (us and brit) with that particular technology. Making them too close to one particular extreme or specific sound would make for weaker sales imho.

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

so the Reignmaker is the British voiced one?

hmm
maybe one of each in 2x12 combo

hmmm
maybe turn one up and one down

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

Yeah, Maveric is American-voiced while reignmaker is british...

I must admit that I fail to completely see the point in using more than one at once, unless it's with a very powerful amp that you intend to run loud...

It's like almost every attenuator thread where someone posts something along the lines of "Even with a lot of attenuation the amp is still too loud played through my 4x12"... no sht sherlock!
I do get that the tone isn't the same played through a 4x12 as opposed to a 1x12 but if you're attenuating as most folks are trying to do (bring a loud amp down to pretty much bedroom or living room level), it's always gonna be a compromise tone-wise... might as well try to reduce everything, including the number of speakers.

Again, there are folks out there who aren't trying to bring amps down that much, i.e. bring break-up a bit sooner to lower the volume for gigging small clubs and whatnot and that's another story completely, and it's a situation where 2 of those would work well too...

Just depends on the application.

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

im in the second group. i blew a g12h-30 in my deluxe reverb down in memphis (amp was only on 4 so not sure whats up but the power sucks at the rum boogie) and while i could just throw a crex in or another g12h, id like to be able to run the amp on 5 or 6 and not get thrown out of the club but also be able to run it loud if im on a festival stage or something like that

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

I'mmguessing it would work fine then jeremy.
One thing, they'll definitely have less mids than you g12h30... It's not like it's scooped but still less.

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

jeremy...have you considered a texas heat in your deluxe? They are indestructible (at 150 watts) and they definitely damp down the output a bit. Nice thick tone too. Somewhere between a cannabis rex and a greenback. It very much suits old skool style fender amps. I have a pair in my twin where they work perfectly by taming all that horsepower, and have one in my booteek jtm 2x12 thingy where its definitely not as loud as the private jack. I also had one for a while in my princeton reverb II - which i have since replaced with a cannabis rex. I liked the sound, but for me, the extra volume of the cannabis rex was a necessity (mainly cos the other guitarist i play with in my jazz trio has a cannabis rex in his sf princeton). Anyway, yeah...texas heats definitely allow you to wind up the master volume a knotch or two higher than you would with a cannabis.

Re: eminence fdm speakers? maverick/reignmaker

ive put texas heats in a few amps and i like the speaker a lot. im really into the idea of the variable volume with similar tone. sometimes i need all the volume i can get outta the little bugger so rather than carrying an attenuater around seems like this is a cool option
