Eminence Governor wow!

My Governor started breaking in yesterday and I was enjoying every juicy minute of it. My Engl Screamer came with a V30 which is a great speaker. It sounded great already but the Eminence Governor (Eminence's take on a V30) is just incredible.

Now my amp is a little smoother, more detailed, warmer, and more articulate. It has healthy midsection and moderate bass and treble. It retains all the great qualities of a V30 but trims off the parts that can sometimes make the V30 less desireable to some people.

It sounds to me very much like a Vintage 30 except a little more in the low mids. What is great about the V30 is you can crank the amp all the way up and it sounds awesome. The Governor can do that just as well or better. You can crank up your bass and do drop D stuff and it won't sound flubby.

When I'm running the amp clean, I can scoop out some of the mids for a great clean tone. The speaker retains just enough low mids so that I can dial in a fat clean tone that is not too bassy.

The Governor is the perfect speaker. It's amazing that Celestion V30's cost around $130 and the Governor sells just under $100. You get more bang for the buck.

Also the Eminence is made in the USA where the Celestion is now made in china. I found it amusing that Celestion moved lots of their production to china yet kept the prices the same.

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

Love the Governor. Now just add a Wizard to a cab with it, and you have found my perfect combination.

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

I still want to try the gov/manowar combo, that's supposed to be badass.

I wish I had the money for one of your 16 ohm govs.

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

Soooo been wanting to try these... heard they pair up nice in an X with Celestion 75's. May trade my V30's for some. Hmmmm....

I have a Man o War on order. I'm going to build a 2x12 with that combo as soon as I can find an unloaded 2x12 cab that I like.

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

Govenor is Eminence's "version" of the V30. It does pair up nice with the Wizard (their G12h30)

Nice for the price

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

The Governor is a great speaker.

It can be a little middy in certain situations. It can also mix with quite a few speakers, the Wizard being one, for a fantastic range of sounds.

The Governor is one of my favorites.

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

Glad that you're digging it! I do like my Red Coat Pvt Jacks.

I'm selling my Private Jack even though it's such an awesome speaker. It's not 100% what I want for my Rivera so I ordered a Man o War. The Governor is perfect in my Engl Screamer so even though I love the Private Jack, I don't have anything to install it in.

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

I think I'm going to give one a try in my Rivera. It came with a V30 but I didnt like it much, but I have since opened the closed back and like the fullness. I'm using a Texas Heat and like it a lot but lately were playing mostly hard rock and I'd like something a little tighter. Maybe this will do it.

The Governor is very similar to a V30 so maybe a Wizard or Man o War would suit you. The Governor is tight, and what I like about it is it's doesn't have a stiff or spongy response. It responds very naturally with an immediate attack, and that's where I struggle liking the V30 at times.

how many hours to break that in?

Well mine isn't broken in like a comfortable shot but after about 10 hours it seems to wear in a little. I played mine for about 6 hours at home volume and then finally got to crank my amp up to 1/2 power for a few more hours. By now though, I've probably put about 18 hours into it.

Re: Eminence Governor wow!

I love a V30 mixed with a T75 which is similar to the MOW and Gov. Personal;y, I just play better on Celestions and they sound right to me. :)

I put a Governor in my ENGL Thunder combo yesterday and am liking the result thus far.

It needs about 25-30 hours of break-in time. In my Screamer, the Governor brought the mids all out front and sounded a bit flat until it started to break in. After some time it started sounding more like the V30 but without any harshness. I found that turning up the treble just a little bit and dialing back the presence and mids from where I had it with the V30 did the trick of giving me the cut I needed without sounding too nasally. Let me know how it works out.
