Eminence Legend 1258 speaker, 75W and 8 ohm. Any good?

Re: Eminence Legend 1258 speaker, 75W and 8 ohm. Any good?

Hey man. I struggled with the lack of mids and warmth for years but always found ways to sort of pull it off; mic placement, post-EQ work with the soundmen, pedals, etc.

Turns out the stock speaker was the problem all along.
With the additional cab it's pretty much a new amp.

but that's when I could easily counter argue it didn't have the right speaker for you, I'm not at all afraid to mod gear to make it more ME for lack of better words. I find that speaker swaps 9 times out of 10 fix the things I'm "missing" in amps for me.

Speaker swaps, tube swaps, pickup swaps, hand cut bone nuts, personalized setup work, etc. Setup your gear the way you want it to sound and play.

It's tough to judge a lot of things in their stock form anymore because so many companies cut corners to keep costs down, so unless you have bookoo bucks to buy something chances are you are going to have to make minor workarounds.

My pickups don't even have their stock magnets in, man. :D

I know what you mean and I agree.
The thing is, the 12 inch stock speaker in the Cube60 is custom designed for it, and swapping it for any other aftermarket speaker demands routing the chassis.
I didn't want to do that, and I'm glad I didn't.

I've never pulled one apart only played them. Ouch extension cab loaded with something different it is then :cool2:

I like the Eminence Legend 1258 quite a bit. For the price, it is an incredible performer. It can struggle with boomy bass or shril highs, but you can usually take care of that with the right EQ adjustments. I have an open back Avatar G212 speaker bottom in which I've mounted 1 Legend 1258 and 1 Reverend Alltone 1250. It is a great sounding set up.

Re: Eminence Legend 1258 speaker, 75W and 8 ohm. Any good?

I've heard great things about those Alltones unfortunately I never picked one up there wasn't anyone locally that ever really had them so I missed out

Re: Eminence Legend 1258 speaker, 75W and 8 ohm. Any good?

Love those Alltone 1250s. I managed to snag 6 before they went out of production. I've got one in an open back Avatar G112 and a 2nd in the 2 X 12" I mentioned above. They
are very nice sounding speakers. SImilar to the Legend 125 but with a little more soundstage, a little bit tighter bass and a little less shrill on the high end.

The new cab is here!!

So far, it's terrific. Oversized indeed - way bigger than the Cube 60 despite being only a 1x12 cab.

Soundwise it's amazing. It counters the Cube's cold tone and adds a lot of mids, punch and warmth.
I found myself backing off the mids, that's a new one!
The fizz is pretty much gone, too. I'm really impressed.

Clean it sounds sharp and ballsy. Dirty, it adds a raunchy bite that should kill live.
Tried it at rehearsal today, the band loved the sounds I was getting.
Loving the Emi Legend 125 so far!!

Man I'm happy! :D

So this doesn't have ice-picky highs as some would say over the net?

The "extended" highs in Emi's website is a bit worrying to me:

The Eminence Legend 1258 guitar speaker is a fastball down the middle, perfect for blues and rock. Vintage American tone with tight lows and warm, smooth mids and highs. Strong upper mid emphasis and extended highs.

Re: Eminence Legend 1258 speaker, 75W and 8 ohm. Any good?

I used these in my twin for a long. It really took the ice picky highs out but I play a strat almost always not sure if your playing a tele. I think it has a very nice warm tone to it.

Re: Eminence Legend 1258 speaker, 75W and 8 ohm. Any good?

they are G12T75 clones... scooped, get GB12s instead.

Re: Eminence Legend 1258 speaker, 75W and 8 ohm. Any good?

^ Based on this clip it doesn't sound scooped at all. I hear a lot of mids, especially the high mids. However, it's VERY bright. I thought the Governor and V30 were bright, but comparing the clips from the same cab manufacturer, the Legend 1258 seems to be the brightest of them all!
