Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

Glad to hear it worked for you too jeremy. I was really keen to hear what you thought. Yes they are definitely brighter than a cannabis rex. More of a classic jensen ceramic/paper sound. They do seem pretty consistent tone wise when using attenuation, although i have to admit i like louder but that is most likely just due to the feel of the air pressure and vibration more than any tonal difference. I'm pretty sure it would not be noticeable through front of house, or recorded.
Gearjoneser...i dont think it really has a "sweet spot". It is a different feel to adjusting a master volume on the amp. It is more like someone just rolls the fader back on the mixing desk (best analogy i can think of). It is quite linear.

yes, '66 deluxe reverb. i liked it louder too but a i also assume its the higher spls than much of a tonal shift. got a few more opportunities to play it this week and im looking forward to it. it was great to be able to turn the amp up to where ya want it but keep the volume at a reasonable level

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

just one more bump to say that ive done a handful more gigs with this and im very happy with it. really lets you keep the volume down and get the amp up without altering the tone much, much better than any attenuator ive tried

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

thanks again for being the brave one and just ordering it without hearing it :D

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

Just resurrecting this zombie thread to let people know that after 8 months of gigging and over fifty gigs I can say that it close to the best thing I've ever bought. Power tube saturation at pretty much any volume required, small gigs, big outdoor stages, live in the room recording, rooms where I am miced and rooms where I'm not. Marvellous.

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

im still happy with mine too, thinking about trying a reignmaker as well

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

I played a reignmaker for a long time (bought one as soon as they got out) and it was a great speaker (it lives at a friend's house now). Smoother in the mids than a v30 (or Emi's Governor) and not as piercing as the Wizard I'm used to (G12h30 clone) but still very good british tone. Recommended for sure.

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

how was the bottom on the reignmaker?

It wasn't as tight as with a v30-ish speaker but definitely not loose either. I'm guessing it's modeled more closely to a greenback than anything else, although this is pure conjecture on my part as I've never spent quality time with a GB... it's just not in the same category tone-Wise as a v30 or g12h30...

Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

Bumping this because I just ordered a Maverick for my 5e3 and this thread had a lot to do with it, so thank you!

I LOVE my cannabis rex but I really want to be able to practice at home with the 5e3 [emoji4]

I hope it’s not too bright for me. I actually play jazz and P&W so I’m hoping the slightly darker tone when it’s attenuated helps my jazz tone but when I crank it I get some of the brightness back that I sometimes missed in the rex.

I’ll report back when I get it.

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

I finally swapped it this weekend. So far it’s doing a great job at doing what I needed it to do, which is having good tones at low volumes.

When I crank it and play live a couple of times I’ll report back but so far so good :)

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

i dont know if it really gets darker as you turn the speaker down. the tone does change a little but at least with my dr i dont find it to be darker. the very high end might be a bit more rounded but its hard to say if thats my ears and the spl of the sound or what. the crex is louder, a bit smoother on the top end and might have a bigger bottom than the maverick but since i put it in i havent thought about taking it out and i have well over 100 gigs on it

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

If anything i find the lows to be a little more pronounced when it is wound up to full volume but that might be simply something to do with the 5e3 and the fact that it has no negative feedback and therefore more interactive with whatever speaker being used. I definitely preferred it to the cannabis rex because the 5e3 is already a pretty low and mid oriented amp and sounds good with a little extra high end clarity. Strangely i found it to be the best match with the 5e3 regardless of its attenuation ability after having tried a crex a private jack a p12n jensen alnico as well. I know that a lot of people love alnicos in a 5e3

i run a g12h30 in my 5e3 but i changed the .1 caps to .047 to shave off some bottom early in the circuit. i tried the crex which i love in my dr and didnt love it in the 5e3. i really like the red fang in the 5e3 but the glass was sooo close to the back of the speaker it was only a matter of time before i lost a 6v6 on the way to a gig

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

I just wanted to report back that I played it cranked live this last Wednesday and love the tone. Interestingly, I chose the normal channel over the bright channel but I don’t think there was a lot of difference at the settings I was at.

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

depending on what guitar i use the normal channel plenty

Re: Eminence Maverick for my tweed deluxe

I missed this thread when it first came out, but it is something I've wondered about since hearing about them. Appreciate the info!
