Eminence speakers

considering that theyre 1/3 the price of celestions here, im thinking of going eminence for my 2x12

models available are the legendv128 and the gb(i dont remember the number)
if i got it right, theyre equivalents to vintage30 and greenback

my question is, how good are they? do they really stand out?
another thing is, i wanted to get an eminence "the tonker" but its a little bit complicated (theres a delivery delay, and price is higher)
but, does the red blue whatever line sound better than the standard ones?

and finally, whos this guy at avatar that deals with them, does he ship to south americas?

thank you!

Ps: they are 50w afaik, so would i blow a singe one with a 100 watt head? do i need 2 of em?

Re: Eminence speakers

The only speaker that I have tried from your list is the GB. It is supposed to be a higher wattage Greenback clone. It does handle 50 watts. I like the sound of this speaker. It's warm like a Greenback, but also seems to have a little more definition, and a tighter low end.

Re: Eminence speakers

i can only comment on eminence's new line, i havent heard the others in a long time. i think some of them are great speakers. i use the cannabis rex, red fang, and texas heat. if you have a 100w head then you should probably have atleast 100w of speaker unless you play quietly all the time. if you turn that 100w amp up you could blow the 50w speaker.

since you have a 2x12 were you planning on only using half or it or ??

Re: Eminence speakers

They have really improved their quality with their new line-the Reds/Blues. Avatar is a great company to work with-I've had great service from them. Contact them about shipping, they might be able to get you what you want, but also check out their Hellatones-they're Chinese made Celestions with their Hellatone sticker placed right over them. I have a Hellatone 30 that sounds great!

Re: Eminence speakers

I've used the following Eminence speakers:

Legend GB12 - a pretty convincing greenback clone with the added bonus of 50W power handling. My favorite Eminece speaker! But I also really love greenbacks...

Legend V12 - supposedly a Vintage 30 clone but I don't really hear it. Nowhere near the mids of the V30 and the low end isn't as well-defined. Still, not a bad speaker, and probably a better choice than the GB12 if you're playing very heavy music.

Governor - Another speaker modelled after the Vintage 30, but this one is much better, IMO. I think I actually prefer it to the V30 on some days of the week! ;) REALLY strong mids and nice tight bass. Great speaker. Takes a LONG time to break in!

Red Fang - This is Eminence's take on the Alnico Blue. I've never played through a real blue so I can't say how it compares. I just know that the sound of a Vox AC30 through a pair of Red Fangs sounds just like a record. I thought I was Tom Petty for a minute but, thank God, when I looked in the mirror I wasn't! :D

Re: Eminence speakers

I like Eminence speakers a lot. For a 100 watt head through a 2x12 cab, you may want some speakers which handle at least 100 watts each. That would help narrow your search down a little. I have a Governor and a Wizard in my 2x12, which gives an awesome midrange tone. You may want something like a Swamp Thang and a Texas Heat, just for the power handling.
