Eminence Wizard...

Re: Eminence Wizard...

Emi Wizard (loudest speker on the market, at 103.5dB) is gonna make a LOUD amp even (((LOUDER)))

i noticed that as well with my 3120, makes me wonder if i would be better off with a less efficient speaker to make the amp work harder...

That could deff work.
If your amp pumps through 103.5dB drivers and it is too loud before you hit that sweet spot, you might want to give 96dB Greenbacks or something simmilar a go.
There will deff be a diff bewteen four 96dB drivers and four 103dB drivers.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I gotta add my $.02 for the Swamp Thang. Great full bodied sound. Got it paired with a 12H100 in an Avatar oversized Vintage 212. Sounds awesome...deep, rich, sparkely, jangly, punchy.

Yes, it has a very open sound! Not as "hi-fi" as the Wizard, but greater touch-responsiveness and dynamics.

so far the WGS-ET65-12 fits the bill without costing very much, will definitely be looking to get 1 or 2 of them...

Re: Eminence Wizard...

Been wanting to try that ET65, a more efficient G12-65 that will handle low tunings and high gain better is pretty high on my list.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

Super old thread, but what the hell.

Anyone else tried a Wizard + Swamp Thang combo in a 2x12? Already got a Wizard and I'm getting the itch to upgrade.
I love the Wizard, it's got lots of everything in the EQ range but it would be even better with a speaker that gave it more lows/low mids,
since the Wizard is crazy loud and has a very nice top end, which is very present but rarely shrill unless you really go for it. It seems the ST is great for this.

If I couldn't get a Swamp Thang for some reason, any other speakers that I could match with the Wizard (don't forget it's 103.5 dB) and that would fill that bottom end nicely?

The local Eminence dealer has:

RW&B,
Screamin' Eagle,
Governors,
Texas Heats,
Wizard,
V128,
Legend 1258 (got one, hate it)
and GB128.

I might just have to do with a pair of Wizards and a bass-heavy cab or something. Or a Governor maybe.

Thanks guys. :D

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I just put swamp things AND texas heats in my Randall cabinet...(X PATTERN). Very dark, middy, and thunderous lows! I can get brightness out of it with lots of knob play and effect pedals, but its rich and loud as all hell. Its the sound I was looking for exactly.

I did this with an empty Avatar Traditional 4x12 I picked up awhile back. It's worked out quite well. A little more lows than I want, but everything else is balanced well and they sound nice and clear. I don't have any problem getting enough highs out of it either, but then again I play my Triple Rec through it, and they are known for being capable of insane amounts of top end fizz.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

Not in any way complete, but I just made this recording today. Most of the guitars are through the Wizard; all clean guitars and the lead section are Swamp Thang. The EQ is flat here, but you can hear how much midrange cut the Wizard has.

The Governor will fill in nicely with your Wizard.
goof luck

Re: Eminence Wizard...

Two speakers you need to check out are Cannabis Rex and Legend series. CRex + Legend GB128 OR Texas Heat + Legend 1218. I wouldn't put the Cannabis Rex with Texas Heat, but either of those speakers is ideal to stock a cab for Fender amps.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

Any of the Gov, V12, Texas Heat or Swamp would work decently with a Wiz. Pick the one you think suits what you want to do best.

I really liked the V12 (well, my GBE-12's) and Swamps with the Wiz.
