Didnt eminence release a line of speakers based off of celestions most popular ones? I'm basically looking for a used pair of V30's, but hellatones dont pop up on ebay too often in single or double pairs, and was wondering what eminence's equivalents are?

Basically looking for the eminence version of V30, G12H30, Greenback, and how you guys thought they stood up to the celestion equivalent?

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

The first one was the V12, the latest is the Governor. I'm impressed with the new Eminence speakers, I currently use GB12s (higher powered verstions of GBs with more low end and smoother highs), Wizards (version of the Governor), and Texas Heats (kinda between American and British voicing, great sounding speaker also). I haven't tried the Govs, but I've been very impressed with the ones I have tried. They handle more power than the Celestion equivalents and sound very good, I haven't A/B'd them against the Celestions though.

DOH, thanks to Rich below for pointing out that I was typing faster than I was thinking, the Wizard is a higher power version of the G12H30, but give me a break, I was on vacation when I posted:smokin:

The Wizard is Eminence's version of the G12H30 kind thing.

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

and the Private Jack is the Greenback Equivalent

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

and the Red Fang is the Celestion Alnico Blue equivalent.

Keep in mind - the consensus is that none of these speakers is exactly like its Celestion counterpart. The lines sort of parallel each other, and these 'equivalencies' are only a guide. The other consensus is that while the Eminence Red Coats may not be exactly like the Celestions, they are their own thing and are all very good. YMMV.

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

Unless you have special attachments to what the sticker on the back of the speaker says, Emi are the better deal by a huge margin. They make great sounding speakers at great prices. I Currently have a Wizard, Swamp Thang, Alnico 122s, Tonespotter ( G1265) and have used GB12s as well. I love em.....

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

The Wizard is Eminence's version of the G12H30 kind thing.

So, let's start a list.......

G12H30 = Wizard (ceramic 75w)
Blue = Red Fang (alnico 30w)
Greenback = Private Jack (ceramic 50w)
V30 = The Gov'nor (ceramic 75w)
G12M-65 = Tonespotter (ceramic 75w)
G12T-75 = Man O War (ceramic 120w)

What else???

FWIW, Mojo makes a great alternative too !!! :beerchug:

i use the wizards & swamp thangs & love em

i think my 4x12 is gonna see 4 wizards pretty soon

the extra power handling is a huge plus

oh, and the manowar is a 300 watt g12t75

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

I use texas' heats in a 2x12 cab and driven by a JMP marshall gets a nice snarly early Who / Damn Yankees almost HiWattish sound that is a nice compliment to the Celestion sound.

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

Joe, I know you are looking at the Hellatone 60L's but these new Eminence sre killer speakers, made in the USA for a very reasonable price IMO...since you are also looking to push a 2x12 with a 100 watt head the higher power might be good too!

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

I have a Governor, a Wizard, 4 Legend 105s, and one more. I love Eminence speakers.

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

Ok, so I was thinking of changing my Marshall 4x12 to have 2 greenbacks on top, with two of my GT-75's on the bottom. Which Eminence is the Greenback? Also, which speakers would/could sound better matched in the bottom for hard rock/classic metal/classic rock/blues?

Sorry for the hijack.

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

Jeff the Eminence Private Jack is the Green Back clone and IMO it sounds very close to a real greenback but it handles a good bit more power and costs less. As for the question about the bottom Im confused...are we talking about 2 cabs here?

Christian, I'm looking to mix speakers in one 4x12 cab...two speakers of one kind up top, and two of another on the bottom.

Re: Eminence's Celestion equivalents?

Well, you like the G1275's so 2 of those and 2 Greenbacks could be cool I am a big fan of mixing speakers but I am not a fan of the G1275's. I like 2 vintage 30's and either 2 G12H30's or 2 Greenbacks, I also like G12-100's but most people do not use them at all. Do you want to keep using at least 2 of your G1275's?

From what I've read:

G12T-75 = Man O War
