Emulated line out question

Hey guys,

I've been experimenting recording from my Marshall amp via the emulated line out into my Boss Micro BR.

Anyways, I've noticed that the line out volume is controlled by the channel volume, not the master volume. Also, I've noticed that the emulated line out seems to bypass my tone control settings on my amp. The result when I play back my recording is kinda muddy and bass heavy. There is no treble. Its mostly low end and mid-range tones. Adjusting or boosting the treble on the front panel doesn't seem to change anything on my recording. The sound thru the amp sounds normal - great if you ask me.

Is this normal? Is there a way I can boost or EQ the signal going into my recorder?

What if I put my Boss GE7 eq in the path between my Marshall and Boss recorder? Will that damage anything?

Sorry for the mess of questions, I'm kinda new at recording.

Any other tips would be appreciated.

Re: Emulated line out question

If you use the Boss GE7 (which you can do) boost the frequencies all you want, BUT be sure to control the final volume with the level bar; too much volume into the input and you could damage it. Try to keep the same volume than with the pedal turned off, and you should be safe. It should work with no problems.

Thanks bro, I tried this and it worked out just fine.

I even picked up a MXR 10 band eq just for this purpose. The MXR had more options and allows me to cut or boost and add or remove some distortion.

Thanks!
