Can someone contrast between the Screamer and Thunder combo's please?

(And... also... can you get the Rivera Knucklehead in combo?)

Re: ENGL Combos

The Screamer does Metal/Gothic very well and has a suprisingly good clean sound, it's got great response and good attack if your picking hand tends to be a bit agressive. I've once heard someone say the gain was very much similar to his 5150 combo, but without all the negative parts to come with it!

People often find the Thunder to have limited controls and shared gain seems to be another downpoint. It also does not have as much headroom as the Screamer's clean channel. The distortion kinda like a Screamer but one step behind. It's a good amp, but the Screamer is better

Re: ENGL Combos

To hear some great playing through an ENGL Screamer 50, search " Marinblues " in the Tips and CLips forum. He has some recordings of a Tokai ES 335 with Seths through a Screamer 50 and it sounds great, and it isn't heavy metal.

The cleans are really good! A bit warm and punchy if you add more mids to your sound. I just checked out this site full of ENGL clips: http://www.rocksolidamps.com/sounds.php . Check out the Screamer head's cleans on this site, imagine this clean sound with a little more warmth and glass and you'll have the Screamer combo's clean ups. I've noticed a lot of dutch players using the Screamer lately (ENGLs are pretty cheap compared to other countries here in Holland), so I'll ask some of them for some clips. I hope they'll be up to it, if they are I'll let you know
