Enlarging a P-90 route for a Humbucker?

Re: Enlarging a P-90 route for a Humbucker?

There was no way to get this neck nut out. No way, except maybe w/ a dremel and carefully sanding down w/a wheel.
I really should have left it alone, what I did was another stupid thing, Taking it to a Luthier to fix woulda been a wash, valuewise, but IO could have sold it for more.
Ive taken a glued in nut out sucsessfully b4 w/ Peavey guitar, I just cut a kerf and sort of chiseled the nut, and even though i did chip the headstock in two places, they were small chips and werer able to be glued back in without being very noticeable.
This neck was a goner, the guy uberglued that bone nut in and it wasnt coming out, no way no how..and its going to be sold for salvage.

From now on, I go to Mark Erlewine or another pro luthier in Austin if I have something important enough to have done , or just scrap the project entirely.

I own a BFG Les Paul, got addicted to the hum-P-90 combo so I did the above to my LP Studio: hum-P-94...

Dimarzio makes P-90 sized versions of a few of their pickups. The super distortion is one that can really be rigged for any type of music. Judging by your job with the nut, I'd go with the Dimarzio.

I suggested this, but I don't think the OP understood that the dimarzio pickups are actual humbuckers in P90 housings.

I know what you meant. A Hot humbucking P-90 doesnt compare with a hot full sized humbucker, but thanks.

Then why don't you get a normal H/H Les Paul (because they are a dime a dozen) and put a Phat Cat or P-Rail in the neck?

I don't think we need to remove wood or hurt any guitars here.

Oh and um. I still haven't seen that XPL. Did it get lost in the mail?

Actually, having used a few of those DiMarzios recently, they absolutely do compare with their regular H sized counterparts. They aren't "hot P-90s", they are humbuckers mounted on a P-90 sized plate to fit in a P-90/mini humbucker routing hole.

I'd highly recommend going that direction instead of permanently modifying, and probably screwing up, your guitar.

It's not a stack P90. It's a works just like a rail pickup, but actually has the full pole pieces. It's a full sized humbucker (same coils and everything), but fit into a P90 housing. I don't think you knew what me meant.
