Envelope Filter vs Auto-Wah?

What are the differences? :scratchch

so far what I know is, Envelope Filter is a wah filter effect that responds to the amplitude of the incoming signal. The harder/louder you play, the more the filter responds.

Yes, correct so far. An envelope filter responds to pick attack. Sometimes called a touch wah. An auto wah is an envelope filter with a set cycle determined by a speed control. So the effect will be like a wah opening with a constant rhythm.

These are my two envelope filter pedals, a 70's Mutron III, and a very early Boss T Wah. I don't have much use for an auto wah.

wow... those are very old envelope filters.

I'm getting crazy now about envelope filter pedals, since I tried one with my bass. I can see the potential of using one with my guitar.
These are the envelopes that are in my radar

Yeah, the Mutron is what Stevie Wonder put on his Clavinet, and what Bootsy Collins had on his bass.

If I were going to get a modern envelope filter, I would get one of these. He calls it an Auto Wah, but it's really a touch wah.

I have an old big box Q-tron. As with all EHX, takes quite a bit of knob fiddling to get it right, but once your there, REALLY cool stuff.
