Ep1112 switch for EGEN18?!?

I recently had a tech "attempt" to wire my JEM7V like the EGEN18, and even with the EGEN18 wiring diagram, there were some issues. He claimed perhaps a different 5-way switch is needed. The DiMarzio tech informed me that the original Ibanez EGEN18 switch is not available for sale, and suggested a Dimarzio ep1112 5-way switch, that would supposedly do the job. Anyone have experience with this switch?

TIA

Re: Ep1112 switch for EGEN18?!?

This is similar to trying to use an Ibanez 5-way switch for an H/S/H config on a 2 humbucker guitar. To answer your question, yes the EP1112 would be the switch you'd want for any kind of specialty wiring of either 2 pickup (with 4 conductor wiring...) or 3 pickup configurations. I know that a lot of weird and alternate wirings can be done, ones such as coil splits, some can/do include series/parallel, and so on.

So I'd say it's worth the money for the EP1112 and re-trying that EGEN wiring your after. You'll more than likely have better results with it. And you can always ask DiMarzio for help with what wires would go where to get that from the EP1112 as well if needed.

Good luck!

That's all the assurance I need. I'll order that EP1112 switch ASAP. If it doesn't work, I can always use it for another project.

Thanks!

Sorry for the 3 month delay, but yes, the EP1112 5-way switch did the job on the EGEN18 wiring configuration. I'm going to have the same procedure done on 2 other H-S-H guitars. So if there's anyone out there who's pondering the thought of doing an EGEN18 wiring mod, the EP1112 will do it. Contrary to what a lot of "experts" will tell you, the original Ibanez VLX91 switch will NOT work for this mod.
