Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

ehdwuld

A Ficus
Played one this afternoon at a local "small box" music store
http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Les-Paul/Les-Paul-Tribute-Plus-Outfit.aspx

the 57 classic humbuckers and USA wiring harness and Chinese crafted body makes for a stunning instrument
I was impressed

I tried the 339 and the Dot and Sheraton

the Tribute was by far the nicest sounding one

oh and they had a nice vintage Twin Reverb to play through

I was looking for the Florentine
http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Les-Paul/Ltd-Ed-Les-Paul-Standard-Florentine-PRO.aspx

but he had none in stock
the owner is gonna call round for one

I played the Gibson ES Les Paul last weekend at the GC round the corner
and it was amazing

but I really cant justify a $2K axe right now

the Epi and an electronics swap would be less than $1K

the Gibson 57 Classics are outrageously priced
wonder which duncans would give that same tone?

I also want to look at the Ultra III
http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Les-Paul/Les-Paul-Ultra-III.aspx

thats some serious features in there

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

'Epi and electronics swap under $1K'? You can do it far less than that. Look for used Tributes. Or other used Epi LP's and get a set of used '57's. You can do this for $350 to $500.

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

Uh, is there a question in there?

the Gibson 57 Classics are outrageously priced
wonder which duncans would give that same tone?

the thought is
I could replace the electronics in the semi hollow guitar that I want
the 339 or Dot
or the Florentine or Ultra

not that the pickups in those sound bad but
they just didnt sound that warm and smooth

the Tribute is a bit heavy at 8.5 pounds
and I want the semi hollow

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

I got my R8 many years ago and proceeded to replace the pickups. I think back then it came with Burstbuckers. But I tried 57 Classics I found cheap, then Seth Lovers, then an A2P/Custom Custom set then finally settled on Antiquities. I went through this process for months swapping back and forth. It was a crazy frantic time for me some how. I had this awesome guitar and dialing it in was so much fun.

Antiquities just had all I wanted and matched up to the quality of the rest of the guitar perfectly. I was after that 57/58/59 perfect tone and Anti's got me there.

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

Your title says Les Paul, but then you actually seem to be wanting a Semi Hollow. I can't tell if you have a question to discuss or are just trying a stream of consciousness writing exercise.

When I tried dozens of hollowbodies years ago, I ended up with an Ibanez AS83. It was a much better guitar than the Epiphones I played.

Thank you. You nailed it

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

That Florentine is sweet! All I need right now, is more GAS. :banghead:

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

For the third time
For the ones here who can't get it

The Tribute is a neat concept
Chinese body with USA pickups
I played one. It sounded good

I want a semi hollow
I want a similar concept
Chinese body with USA electronics

Scott has the idea
Which pickups could get me close to the warm sound of the 57 classic

Blake you and Mr B must just not understand
It's OK if ya'll just drop off
Thanks anyway

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

It isn't a problem with Blake and my ability to understand things... but yeah... we'll leave you to it....

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

I know its not what you are looking for with the thread, but I got one of those Tribute plus' and I cant stop playing it.. Heckuva deal. Orange drop caps, locking keys, push pull pots. I was expecting to pull the pickups right away, but I cant bring my self to do it.. The neck is really good, the bridge is alittle bright, so I have to keep the tone rolled down a bit.. Itching to put my Suhr aldrich in the bridge, but.. Great bang for the buck..

Im not really semi hollow saavy so good luck with your quest..

yeah I am so conflicted
I went in to look at the semi's and the Tribute was easily the best sounding in the store
I wonder if its mostly the pickups
because the body is made in China as is all other Epi's

The owner is ordering the Florentine
then I can try them side by side

and I'm thinking the 57's should put it in the same league with the Tribute

maybe some locking tuners

So which Color Tribute did you get?
I thought the Blue one was awesome

Re: Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus

Yeah, the blue is gorgeous! Originally what I wanted, but I really like the black too. I ended up getting a great deal on the black one, so went with that. Regardless of where it was made, its a great playing guitar. Plus the feature set is a win! Not much to have to upgrade on it.

Received and understood.

Could you please confirm that you definitely want a Gibson scale length and a Les Paul body outline?

gibson scale = check
les paul body size = check

the 339 is not "too" big
the 335 is a bit large
the full hollow (Gretsch size) is way to big
