I decided to save up for an Ubershall cab instead of a Gibson SG, so to keep myself happy in the mean while I bought this :)
It's the 3rd guitar I ever owned and I think a big step up to the Ibanez RG I have.

Wow this axe looks good!
It also feels/plays pretty nice, but I'm about to give it a setup so I won't comment on the playability or sound yet.
Bought it new and sounded pretty good in the store both plugged and unplugged. Frets seem ok but the fretboard needs cleaning and some oil.

I'm putting a '59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge.

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

Gefeliciteerd (Dutch for: )/Congratulations dude! I'm not a big Epi fan, but I heard the Custom is pretty decent. How long have you been playing? You own a Bogner XTC, but have owned three guitars? You're like the oposite of me, I('ve) own(ed) top class Gibsons, but never got a good amp outside of the rehearsal room :)

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

N!ce Axe. I don't like gold that much but with this axe it looks awesome!!
Time for some clips together with the XTC!!!

Dank je! (=Dutch for: Thanks!)
I'm not a big epi fan either but this one looks and feels like a solid guitar. I checked the control cavities and it looks like all Mahogany to me. There's supposed to be alder in there but I don't see it, all the grain is the same.

I've been playing for 7 years now (I was about your age when I started picking up the guitar) but only the last 3 - 4 years have been serious/effective. I've played a 3/4 size crap acoustic for years...
It's actually a long story I don't want to bore you with.
The Bogner was a lucky deal I ran into, I happened to have the right amount of money at the right time.

I wonder, you are 16 and have/had a lot of good (and expensive) gear, did you won the lottery or something? Rich parents?
You should look out for a nice amp, I see a lot of good deals passing by.

Lol, that's what everybody always say about this axe :)
I think the gold is nice but I'm almost certain that I will change the hardware eventually (duh! it's an epi :laugh2: ) into chrome or black. I already started with the straplocks. Pickups are next...depending on how long the toggle switch will keep functioning.
I don't like the pickguard either, I wonder if the screwhole can be filled up if I take it of...

When I looked inside the control cavity I noticed that a lot of wood has been routed/drilled away. It's almost hollow! Still weighs a lot though, I'm guessing 4 - 5 kilo's.

Anyone else owns an epi custom? I'd like to hear your experiences with this guitar.

Heres mine, I have it up on ebay at the moment.

JB and '59 in there.
Jimmy page wiring
Complete refret was performed, the thing is a SHREDDING MACHINE now.

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

Very nice axe Nightburst! I'd really like a LP, I've wanted one for years. I've played a Custom before and liked it alot. Best of luck with it. :)

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

I owned a '70 Gibby LP Custom for over 10 years. I missed having a LP and acquired this black beauty from Wattage. It's close to the real deal (made in Japan) with the same headstock and long tennon neck, real MOP inlay too. The topper was having SD pups already dropped in. I don't really like or have gold hardware, but it looks perfect with this flawless beauty...oh yeah, the tone is killer. Whats not to love?

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

those are some nice LP's....

AWESOME SCORE NIGHTBURST!!!!

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

Thanks guys,
Hey those epi's look awesome! I really like the headstock on Butnut's.
Show me some more Epi Customs!

Strattom, I see you have 2 SG's already, you'll love the LP. Personally I prefer the paul neck but I'm still gassing for a SG.

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

may i ask how much you've paid?
oh i'm gasing so much for a gibson style guitar in the moment... but no money!

Hmm to keep a long story short: When I started playing my dad had stashed away a Fender which he bought from his old guitar teacher about 2 years ago for 400 gilders (200 US) back then. I picked it out of the case and kept playing until now, I later found out is was bought in the '70ies. I was progressing fast so my mom agreed to give me 300 euros for a guitar, that later became about 800 euros. From that day on, I was trading and offering and actually making money out of playing it smart with some folks.

I do have two fairly high-end, high gain amps now, check my sig. But both of them will go in order for me to buy a Rivera Knucklehead 100 in Switzerland. I'd love to have a Soldano Decatone or Bogner XTC, but that would really take me a lot of selling/trading stuff and would just be too stressful for me. The Rivera might be just what I'm looking for :)

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

Those are 2 fine amps in your sig Neera! I've never played though any of those but their reputations speak for themselves. There is some guy in the Hague who actually mod's amps if you decide to keep the JCM800. There's also the Ampman in Leiden. I took my Bogner to him for new tubes and biasing, I think he does mod's as well. Just something to think about before you get an amp all the way from Switzerland.

Marcel, I paid €599 for it. Maybe not the best price for it but definately not the worst either. It's new but 2 years old and is a much better axe than my Ibanez. I like the smaller frets more and the neck is thicker which suits my hands better. Overall it feels a lot more solid. I suggest you get one of these babies 2nd hand if you can, they go for pretty cheap.

I bought a nice tweed Gator case and put Duncans in the axe. I also removed the pickguard because I think it looks a lot better without it. Too bad there's 2 holes in the body where the pickguard was screwed in. :yell:

Now the guitar looks like this:

I love it! :headbang:

Thanks Nightburst

Could you give me the name of the guy who mods amps in The Hague, perhaps his adress and phone number if you have it? Thanks in advance

I knew about the Ampman, but never visited him. Now that I know there's a guy in The Hague maybe I won't have to. Could I be so rude to ask you how much you paid for the tubes+biasing (or seperate?)? :blackeye:

I'm kinda stuck to the Knucklehead, and the seller is really nice, but I first intended to though :)

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

congrats on the new lp nightburst, i think the custom epiphone lps are really good quality for th money and much ncier than the lower end epiphones.

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)

nice epi's guys, i almost got one of those a while back but ended up with a gibson sg special instead. almost every epi lp custom i've played has been great quality.

I was told by a friend about the amp modder in the Hague so I don't know anything else yet. I'm going to Peer Dellen next week so I'll ask him if he knows the guy. He probably will.

The ampman is great, he did a great job with my Bogner. He biased it for me checked all the tubes, aligned the preamp tubes (he told me the first tube in the circuit should be the most balanced one) replaced 2 power tubes with Svetlana EL34 =C='s, cleaned the chassis and removed most of the rust that was on the transformators for €94.
I have no idea if that is expensive or cheap so if someone knows about prices please tell me.

I was looking at a knucklehead too before I ran into the Bogner deal, I'll bet that amp will blow you away!

Anyone else with a nice Epi Custom?

I agree, I've played some horrible Epi's, this one feels a lot more solid.
I wonder how sweet a real Gibson Custom must be then! :32:

Re: Epi LP custom! (PICS)
