Epi Lp is wowing me.. a saga

I have an Epi LP that Ive been very impressed with it since I got it. It was a limited run Transparent black Standard. I got it at a great price and was so suprised at how good it was, I turned around and snagged another. Well, I had to sell one and have almost sold this one, but couldnt bring myself to.
The stock pickups were pretty good even (so good, I even put the neck one in the neck of my SG) but I replaced them with some Genesis Sounds pups and she sounds amazing..
When I play this thing, only the headstock shape and the glossy neck remind me its not a Gibby.. Matter of fact, I sold my Studio and am keeping this one..

Well, ok.. All well and good you are thinking.. Here is some interesting twists. I have recently really been bitten by the bug to get a Gibson Traditional Pro LP, but I dont have the money.. Ive considered financing, but my credit is horrible. But I figure, maybe I can build some possitive credit and have a cool axe.. So, Im trying to put off going after the Trad pro.. I dont wanna be hasty as its alot of money and something I really dont need.. Plus, I really dont want to be rejected again...

So, to talk myself out of it, Ive been playing my LPs.. The Burny is an amazing guitar and fits the classification of LP Custom.. As you know Im having a love hate with the pickups in that one tho.
Ive played my Michael Kelly Patriot Custom and love that guitar. And when I recall how little I paid for it, I giggle like a school girl... But even though its mahog and maple, it isnt a LP.. So, last night I drag my Epi out of storage. I played her today... She feels good, has great weight, plays so nice and has the tone, the sustain... Even one of my girls said Daddy, that one really sounds good! I just cant say enough about these.. Epi REALLY hit it with these.. Even the other one I had was right on. The only issue is there is an ugly spot (knot hole??) on the top. Too bad they are limited edition, Id buy another..
Anyhow, its doing a good job of delaying the trip to the shop to get declined . I sure do want a Trad pro tho. $!@#@ GAS!!!

Yeah, my Epi Black Beauty is a fantastic guitar. Some people sneer at them but we're not all well off enough to buy Gibsons, and the Epi is a fine instrument in its own right.
I don't think I'd buy a Gibson even if I came into some money, there's other guitars I'd buy before a Gibby since I like my Epi so much.

Well if you want to make it bit more Gibson-esque, and want to have some fun, look into this.... http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/epi...-dulling-poly-finished-guitars-pic-heavy.html

Among other things, buy a few cheap upgrades and get her sounding really good... an all new good quality Gotoh bridge and Gotoh aluminum stop tail is only about $55 all together. Buy some new caps or something or put a decent TUSQ nut on it. Doing some cheap, but effective mods will help downplay the GAS and make you even happier with your LP

That's a pretty cool thread, his Epi looks a lot better now.
My own Epi is black, so it doesn't really have that same "toy-like" look, but it's certainly worked well on that particular colour.

I had mine re-fretted straight after I bought it,had an Ivory nut fitted too.The Ivory nut really improved the sound resonance through the neck/body.
I've hacked the wiring and pickups.I put pole magnets into the Epi coils[removed the bar magnets]I currently run the neck pup as a single coil.

Not the greatest pic.[Light reflections and it looks out of proportion from the angle it's shot from.]

Yeah thats true... black prolly wouldnt benefit very much. Cool thread none-the-less; many people over there have done it and lots of them do it as a standard procedure every time they buy an Epi.

Still some pretty cool schutff you can do with it though. Maybe find some really cheap used Duncans or even just buy a few uber-cheap GFS pups to upgrade the stock ones a bit.

I've been playing guitar since the age of seven, and I've been a pro since age fifteen. Now I'm fifty, and I don't work as a pro musician anymore, I just gig for the fun and the pleasure.

I've had any possible guitar I wanted, mostly Gibsons.

Today, my collection adds up to four instruments. Three are japanese late '70s and the last one is a new chinese-made Takamine acoustic.

I've made a choice of selling all those fine instruments because I've realised I didn't really need'em to make music. I don't need to impress anybody anymore by my high quality gear. I don't need to pose anymore. Been there, done that, moved on.

I get the same good tone if not better than most younger players playing in my circuit. I get ridiculously high offers all the time for my #1 Terada-made early '80s 335 copy Emperador guitar w/ SDs '59 bridge in the neck and a C 5 in the bridge.

You don't NEED a Gibson to good make music. You need a couple of good hands to accomplish what your mind tell'em to play. And a heart to get that emotion in the music felt by other people.
