Thanks guys! Hahaha

Yeah, I really do need a bass. I'm downsizing my rig this week, so I'll have a bunch of cash leftover - Methinks upgrade the PC and get DFHS.

The DKFHS has plenty of nice bassdrum sound.i use them sometimes too..
As i see ,you know well what you do ,so keep it going !!!And let us hear more...
And for your taste ,some believer(okay christian black metal maybe sucks) and basil poledouris ,prokofiev are well made music with a big inspiration potential for you:cool:

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

Ah forget to review... go phone call ...
Sounds very good like always.
On thing I have to complain either you need a bigger bassdrum sound or maybe more focused guitar sound? Maybe it's just a lacking bass... but the bassdrum sound sooo thin compared to the guitarsound.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

i like it a lot. especially the solo. nice work. i agree on the drum comments.

if you want comments on everything, heres some on electronic drums: panning, and alternating the volume are a huge help. if theres a piano roll view, try raising and lowering the kick by half steps randomly, and if you have a program that lets you control things like attack, sustain, and things like that, take advantage. even a crappy program if it has those controls can be good for making realistic drums if you just alternate the volumes for each hit, and such.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

Yeah, that was all PODxt. 2 tracks of Recto model and 2 tracks of 5150, like I'd use in real life.

As far as the drum/stereo panning, are you guys only referring to the kick? I've been comparing my kick to some of my favored reference albums, and I don't think the stereo spread needs any work. I'm going to kick the bass up on it a bit though, for more thump.

Alot of it is a lack of bass, though. I find bass can be the single determining factor between an amazing mix and a lackluster one.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

Ah see, you're talking about panning from the listeners point of view.

If you take a listen to it, I pan from drummers POV. Ride is on the right, hats on the left, toms go from high to low left to right, and cymbals are all relative to the drummers style and preference.

The main reason I do this is because I write most, if not all, of the parts by "airdrumming" along to it.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

Pretty remarkable the styles of metal you shift through in this song. I was hearing a lot of different influences that melded well. Only think I would say is take more chances on the lead. It was perfectly played and very well structured. But it never sounded like you were really "going for it" if that makes any sense.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

Damn Jeff... the 2:30 mark onward kicked my ass. VERY nice phrasing and restraint on the solo. I'm impressed.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

i do not mean about panning.i mean the different strokes of the left and the right leg/foot..so in drumkit from hell and drumkit from hel superior ,there are always left hand ,right hand and the same for the kick. This is also the difference between triggering and mic recording!!.And for the kick tone.It is a good kick tone imo.Asd a drummer ,i can say it fitts to your music. It had to be a liitle less louder ,and the bass will fill the frequence where the kick cannot be present..
so ,
1)use left and right foot to achive the real kick feeling
2)play a tight an deep bass part to make the kick come to life ,cos it is a good tone imo
3)your kick is to loud and too present therefore more sterile and not "deep" enough.a liitle reverb or the bass tone will change it anyway.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

Ah yes, I understand now.

But, I'm going for the triggered tone, not a natural kick tone by any means. In fact, I tend to hate natural kick tones.

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

sweet stuff as usual DSS..keep it coming....nice heavy riffage....although the trem picked melody notes are heavy but need more definition

Re: Epic/Melodic Deathmetal

Definitely enjoyed that clip. The guitar was very tight and precise. I think the issue with the drums is just turning up the bass drum like you said. It's there but not enough to be felt. A bass guitar would add a lot! If it complemented the drums and yet gelled the guitars, it would be sick. I can hear it in my head having been a bass player. I think the solos could use a little work. I like what you've done, but feel the song calls for a more balls out riffage. Harmonizing is cool, but have a guitar wail off of one of the haromnies. You know what I'm saying?
