I have no experience with bb3s.
I suggested the seths as I have a set in a Hamer Monaco Elite (LP style guitar) and I love them in there including for the styles mentioned.
I've never had issues getting through the mix, I imagine because it has a decent amount of mids...in fact I was asked once if they were high output pickups. Take that for what it's worth.
I'll look into them for sure. They gotta be good pickups, cuz too many people praise them. But as Jeremy said, I want more muscle than what I've got. If by chance though, it's the illusion of muscle and that's what sounds best then why not.i have a monaco elite as well, mine has antiquitys and it sounds fantastic! i have a set of seths in a washburn wms and they sound great too. i think the op might want something with more muscle from what he has said
Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely look into those you mention as well. It doesn't really have to be high outputI like the duncan custom and how it works in a les paul. And since it takes mag swap very well, it is my favorite bridge pick-up. At the Moment both my les paul have it installed. One C8 and one custom custom to adeguate them to the woods. The second favorite pick-up in a les paul is the superdistortion. It may give you a darker sound but with the right pot you can have it sounds good. One more suggestion: the hybrid. I don’t like high output pick-ups because they are too compressed to my ears
I think it would pair with the BB2 you already have well.So I'm really leaning towards the custom here. Been listening to a lot of demos. I think I'm from what I'm reading and hearing, it may just work.
I Know some of you have give answers, but what do you pair it with?
I know the obvious is a jazz or 59, and I've seen the pg suggestion.. maybe a sns?
I don't know that I'll change it out, but since I'll have it opened up anyway who knows.
Pretty sure I'll go with covers to keep the look.
Oddly enough, I'm actually looking at another one...
I think a HB shines with 500k pots. It opens it up from 250k darkness. If you dial down the volume to clean sounds, linear instead of audio taper.Another question for everyone above...
Are you using these with 500k pots? or lower/higher values?
IME Custom in an LP type would pair well withSo I'm really leaning towards the custom here. Been listening to a lot of demos. I think I'm from what I'm reading and hearing, it may just work.

the r7 should have 500k pots.I think a HB shines with 500k pots. It opens it up from 250k darkness. If you dial down the volume to clean sounds, linear instead of audio taper.
I have a 2012 Gibson custom shop R7 with BB1/2. I don't know the pot values but I know they are more than 250k. Sounds very transparent.
How about a 59 in the bridge for more power? I think you're after an alnico 5 based HB.
Will definitely be checking out these... Hopefully I'll find some content somewhere with the combinations.IME Custom in an LP type would pair well with
Alnico 2 Pro (warmer, rounder, vocal lead, little low end or highs)
Seth (vintage match, just enough mids to be vocal on leads)
PG (bright but full range, workhorse)
Jazz (bright with some low end thump)
WLH (like a louder, fuller PG or 59)
Yeah, I don't know that I'll change out the neck. But options are always a good thing.the r7 should have 500k pots.
the 59b isnt going to have more power than the bb3. different, and i would say better, tone yes.
the custom should match up fine with the bb2 in the neck. no reason to swap it if you like what you are getting. i really like the bb1 and bb2, never liked the bb3
