OP: there's not need to swap out any of the electronics. Epi uses 500K pots and unless they're scratchy (which is uncommon) you don't need to replace them. The sound won't change. Same with the toggle. Save your money.

Ok going with: Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Bridge Pickup APH-1 and the Seymour Duncan SH2N Jazz Model Neck Black.
The replacements going to be very smooth, I have smaller fingers and fit nicely in the F holes.
I will wait until sunday to place the order in case anyone has final thoughts

Ok going with: Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Bridge Pickup APH-1 and the Seymour Duncan SH2N Jazz Model Neck Black. The switch will be a Switchcraft Short-frame Toggle Switch, POTS-Seymour Duncan YJM-500 Hi-Speed (some reviews say capacitors not needed?)
The replacements going to be very smooth, I have smaller fingers and fit nicely in the F holes.
I will wait until sunday to place the order in case anyone has final thoughts (perhaps a different pot?).

I would suggest 500k pots for sure with 0.22uf capacitors.

I'm sure you meant .022uf cap.

When recommending components which have a value, accuracy is very important. There is a HUGE difference in the affect/response of a .22uf cap and a .022uf cap. It's a good idea to check and edit your post, if necessary, before posting to prevent leading a noobe into the abyss.

Seymour D's instructions say a .047cap on the wiring diagram. the Epiphone cap that was in there isnt marked clearly (has A223T on it). also can you guys tell me what AWG wire is best for rewiring? thanks for all the help!

You could certainly use a .047uf cap but, IMO, a .022uf sounds better with humbuckers. A .047uf cap tends to sound pretty dark, again, IMO. Although I am not sure what the value of the stock Epi cap is, my guess would be it's a .047uf.

Personally, I like cloth covered 22 AWG wire, if you can't find cloth covered then regular will do.

I have an Epiphone Dot Studio and want to upgrade the PU's and the POTs.
I want less distortion and more smooth for early classic rock and blues.
example I think is a tonal neck and a smooth bridge (or do i have this reversed?)
Any suggestions are appreciated as to which SD's to get!!
My knowledge in this is novice.

I suggest Seths or Antiquities.

The amp will be 90% of it, though.

The pots...look online for instructions on how to change them out on a semi-hollow. It's a bit more of a PITA than normal.

yes i was blessed with skinny fingers which helps. 22awg is what i got including a shielded single wire for the plug run. appreciate all the help. should have it together by friday (gulp)

Success! all done sounds beautiful i really love the SH2 jazz neck sound. If you guys would please look at my PU mounts I am not sure I have the PU rings correct. And theres a pic of my wiring job. thanks

You have the neck pickup ring turned around. It should taper down toward the neck, just like your bridge pickup ring does.

I prefer Lin tone pots and audio vol pots. I think of it like audio (or log) as a roller coaster; starts off slow, then kicks in fast towards the end, and a linear pot is more like an escalator; gradual and even from start to finish.

Ps your original cap is .022, the "3" after the 22 indicates how many "0's" so it's 22000pf or .022uf

thanks much off to order a linear pot. i did the cap right except i got a 250v that's all the store had. no doubt the voltage is not a factor here except for the size? another few days and i go look for a tube amp forum...
