Epiphone Les Paul Price Drop?

Can anyone tell me what's with the price drop on Epiphone Les Paul's recently all over the internet, sometimes as cheap as half the list price. Too much stock? Weak economy? Bad batch from China? Corporate generosity?

An Epiphone Les Paul Custom is getting pretty tempting for someone like me who's always wanted a Les Paul but could never afford even the most basic Gibson model... It could possibly make for a good secondary guitar next to my main MIA Strat after a few mods (SD '59 pickups & upgraded electronics)...

I think we can safely rule out "corporate generosity" right off the bat. It's not how American companies do business. I highly doubt there's a "bad batch" of thousands of guitars. That leaves the obvious: full warehouses and slow sales, their cash is tied up in inventory and it's hard to pay bills that way. We benefit. What's not to like?

I'm an Epi man myself, love Gibson designs, hate the price tags. Their set neck LP's are nice for the money, especially the Customs and flametop Stds. Upgrade PU's and they'll sound pretty good. Done it many times myself. You're right on target with a set of '59's, or a C5/'59N if you want a high output bridge PU.

I suppose I don't really have a choice than to buy one... In a couple of months or years when the economy gets better I doubt I'll be able to find a Epiphone Les Paul Custom for 500$ to 600$. I'll be kicking myself forever for not buying one when they were easily available. I have my eye on Les Paul Custom with heritage cherry sunburst & gold hardware and I think that I'll order it tonight...

I played one of the new sparkle ones at GC the other day.. Was a great player and sounded good for $599. Normally any of the Limited Edition ones seem to be REALLY nice! My Epi is a limited edition and its awesome!

The Epi sparkle Studio LP's are now $399 at GC. I like the regular finish Studios better, which are the same price. The white ones have gold hardware and look like a Custom except for the binding.

399??? holy crap... I guess Im secure enough in my masculinity that I could play a sparkle guitar...
They were 599 at my GC 2 days ago.
