Gibsons have three piece bodies too, or even four piece: Two piece mahogany back, two piece maple cap.

The necks can fool you and look like mahogany because they add a brown dye into the wood sealer.

Well the point I was raising there, is that I don't think that there is an once of Mahogany in the body of my guitar.

Now you are implying that even the neck might be Mahogany free. :gurmpy: :disappoin: :17:

C'est vraiment trop injuste !!!

Does A whole alder Les Paul still sounds like a real Les Paul?

With a bolt-on neck, it ought to be Les Paul 100. You can check on the Epi website, they are still selling this model.
It turns out to be a '95. It looks exactly like a standard, flamed veneer, cherry sunburst, binding everywhere. After examining a neck chip, it's definately mahogony, the rest I'm not sure. It looks like mahogony in the control cavity and neck pocket, but it's light.

Re: Epiphone LP's and woods...

This thread has me curious about mine now. I knew going in before I bought it that there would be the chance of a different wood and all that. Didn't stop me though. Mine is a May 2004 model, made in the Chinese factory. It's a LP Standard Plus, Transparent Amber. I'm pretty sure the neck and body are mahogany but it looks like alder around the body sides. I've read that the Plus models have real flame maple tops. It's a pain to tell for sure though because the cavities are painted black.

Re: Epiphone LP's and woods...

I had a 1997 Standard, and the body and neck wood was definitely mahogany. I am not sure about the "maple" cap, but it had a wicked flame that I highly doubt was real at that price (I'm sure it was either veneer or photo).

Other posters talking about the Epi's from this era having multi-piece bodies are correct. The body on mine was at least four pieces, and no effort whatsoever was made to hide this fact. From the back you could clearly see the seams.

I never really liked that guitar. I mainly bought it because I was young and stupid and wanted a Les Paul :)
