Epiphone SG Prophecy

Re: Epiphone SG Prophecy

So I went to that website that GuitarStv listed (http://www.tbargain.com/) and looked at the Slash model. Very confusing...

The description says it is AAA flamed maple with amber finish, the picture shows a goldtop.
The description also says zebra and reverse zebra pups, the picture shows all black.

I'm sure I could find a lot more descrepancies if I wanted to spend the time. I don't, so I won't. It's just very shady. I'd just stay away. You don't know what you're gonna get.

Re: Epiphone SG Prophecy

Weird thing about the guitar I talked about earlier in this post from a couple of years ago, does sort of look like a SG version of this Prophecy Les Paul Custom GX in Black Cherry. Would Epiphone have released a guitar years ago as a prototype and then finally make a production version 4-5 years later? Odd to say the least, but this is sort of the Les Paul version of the SG I saw in Sam Ash a couple of summers ago.

Weird thing is until the 2011 model came out, nobody heard of a Prophecy with block inlays like the one I saw at Sam Ash in mid 2010. The guitar I saw was also used, so it wasn't exactly a new model then even. Still a mystery though and maybe someday the mystery will be solved.

Thing is even the pics I posted differ from the normal 2011 Prophecy Custom Plus GX models as the pics show gold covers on the pickups and the stock Epiphone pics come with uncovered pickups. The pics I posted have a rosewood fretboard, but the stock Epi picture from their website looks dark and uniform like a Ebony fretboard (which is what I remember for certain the Prophecy I played a couple of years ago had)

Here's a pic of the 2011 Epi Prophecy Custom GX from epiphone's website:

Re: Epiphone SG Prophecy

To be honest; The Epiphone brand is terrible. People will disagree... Now there are exceptions to the rule, you know the story worker x won the Lotto the night before and made an exceptional musical instrument. At least the Epi looks like a real 335. No weird finishes or bizarre horns. At least they don't have the unfinished aggressive headstock of the PRS. The best headstocks IMHO are Martin, Gibson, and CBS fender Strats. Remember you can't make a SILK PURSE OUT OF A SOWS EAR. No one here remembers how people would take a Firebird or A Fiero and try to make them look like a Testarosa. By the way I never liked the Testarosa. Now if you are a Luthier I'm sure you can turn an Epiphone dot into a real ES335, but all the money and time you will never get back when you sell the beast. I'm not ranting it's just I've been down the Sows Ear path before.

I assume that this is all obvious to most of you.
