Epiphone sheratons and dots

Hi ho, wonder if you folks can advise me on this issue...

The other day I played a Sheraton in a guitar shop. It SEEMS to be almost identical to my own Do t (the 335 copy), but it sells for an awful lot more money. Howcomeso? Are there any major differences in wood or hardware that push the price up? I'm just talking about the "standard" range, not the elitist stuff (the elite sheraton has minihumbuckers....)

Cheers all,

jsr

its prettier. I might get one, theres a second had one in my local store, and it plays like a dream. hmm, birthday in two weeks...

Re: Epiphone sheratons and dots

is that all that you pay the extra for? Sheesh... in that case, Kyuss, unless you REALLY like the decor, get a dot and use the money you save to stick one of Seymour's best in the bridge. Like what I'm gonna do in a couple of weeks :D

Re: Epiphone sheratons and dots

I had a Dot before, pretty nice guitar. But I just picked up a Sheraton because I was pleasently surprised at how nice it played. The fit & finish seemed to me above the Dot (although I know they are basically the same thing). So I have to assume that although it's just a fancy Dot, that they put some extra time into it to get it finished up nicely. I'm looking for a used 59 set or similar (with gold covers) for mine.

thats a beaut man! the one im lookin at is black. just like what Josh Homme is using at the moment. it works out the same price as a dot, because it is second hand, and its just so pretty.

Re: Epiphone sheratons and dots

My dot is VERY similar to that, a natural wood colour, but less ornate, dot inlays and chrome hardware. I'm kindof in 2 minds about it these days.... I went into the shop wanting the traditional cherry-colourd dot and they didn't have any, but I REALLY wanted my guitar and the natural one looked nice.....

Ach well, too late now. Still looks nice by anyone's standards.

I have that exact guitar with a set of Seths! As for the Dot, I tried them and they felt very cheap and didn't sound all that great. The Sheraton is hardly a be all of semi hollow gtr's but I would take it hands down over the Dot examples I test drove while shopping for it.

Re: Epiphone sheratons and dots

I think it's like all Epiphones, there are some good ones and some bad ones . . . my Dot outplayed the Sheratons that I tried in the store. That is a beautiful blonde that you've got there Tattooed Carrot! Put some vintage output SDs in there and I'll bet it'll really surprise you . . .
