Epiphone Vavle Special

Went to the music store today with the intention of trying out an Epiphone Valve Junior that I'd read so much about, they didn't have one in so I tested its bigger brother the Special.

I was really impressed with this little 5w Class A amp, considering it only costs £165 which is a bargain.

Now this is a bargain little amp that is ideal for modding - so I've decided to swop out the speaker first and then the valves. So I'm after some suggestions for a replacement 10" speaker and both 12AX7 & EL84 valves.

I want to retain that vintage warm tone.

Cheers

An alnico Weber speaker would do nicely in that amp, and a JJ EL84 coupled with an Electro Harmonix 12ax7 would be a killer combo.

Wow - I paid US $220.00 here, sorry they cost so much more in the UK...but what doesn't. Anyhow I love the amp but I'm selling mine. I never got to mods but a speaker like an Eminence would be cool and some tubes with higher gain I think.

It the way it goes in the UK! Just have to make the best of a bad job

Had a root round the internet and am thinking of going Celestion Alnico for the speaker and JJ's for the EL84's and EH's for the 12AX7.

Haven't got a whole heap of cash to mod and these seem reasonably priced parts for a tinker.
