Epiphone VS Gibson (give me your insights plz!)

Re: Epiphone VS Gibson (give me your insights plz!)

Fudge 'em both, ESP makes awesome LP's...and just shop around, i've heard great things about Tokais, Burnys...y'know? A Gibson is a Gibson but it's still just a Gibson.

And $1000 is a lot to ask for a guitar somebody doesn't want anymore.

I have actually been considering a Gibson Les Paul. Can anyone give me an idea how much the Gibson Les Paul Studio and Standard would run. Assuming its a 2004 model and brand new?

If you shop around and don't pay sticker, you can get a standard for $1550-$1600 and a studio for $1000 new.

Thanks TC. What are the big differences between the Gibson Les Paul Standards and the Studios? Thanks again for the input dude. :)

I have an Jap made Les Paul. Any of the Jap made Les Pauls kick major arse. Well all of the ones I've played anyway. Burny, Orville, Jap ESP, Epi Elite have very high build standards. I doubt that you'd be able to tell the difference between an American Gibson and these guitars if subject to a blindfold A/B test. In fact, I've played a few Gibsons and I was less than impressed with the quality of finish etc..

As per usual, let your ears be your guide. Of course from a purely financial point of view, Gibsons hold their value much better than copys and in the long run, you'd be financially better off in terms of resale value, ceteris paribus.

If you plan to mod a Les Paul copy, it would help if you had some basic luthier knowledge, i.e. wiring, setup etc to shave a bit off the cost...
That being said, if you're going to mod a Gibson Les Paul, then modifications are probably going to affect the resale value anyway.

When you change out the pups to something other than Gibson pups it dosen't really have the Les Paul sound anymore, so then why the heck did you buy it in the first place?

this isn't exctly true. I bought my LP that came with the 490 series humbuckers. I installed a set of Pearly Gates' and it soundsmuch more like the classic LP's you hear on recordings than it did with the stock Gibson humbuckers and electronics.

Put in a Pearly Gates, 59, Seth Lover, or Antiquity set into any LP, even one with Burstbuckers, and you'll get more "Paul" out of your Paul. :burnout:
