Epiphone Wilshire? Anyone tried them?

Have any of you tried one? Was it any good?

I saw this while browsing the Music Store (German on-line store).
They sell these for 177€ VAT + 25€ shipping.
In short one could have one of these at his door for a net 200€ (actually 202€).

I'm tempted to try one out although I don't really have a use for one of them right now...

BTW, you can check it out here:

Looks a bit like the old...oh, what was it called...Olympic? Olympus? Something like that...

I'd buy it.

I have a 65 Epi Olympic, which is pretty much the same thing.

The neck feels awesome- I love the look... It's a good guitar.

The biggest con to the instrument as a general thing- the body is VERY light. Just because I'm used to playing 8 pound guitars- this thing probably is a touch under 6.

Again, mine is a 65.

Another issue is string ring behind the nut- because of the distance from the nut to the tuners and it's straight pull. I have a velco cable tie to kill the vibrations. It can be really annoying in some instances... Open D chord, open G chord...

I'd buy it.

The Crestwood, Wilshire, Coronet and Olympic are all variations on the same body style/theme.

All I know is the Crestwood is the top of the line model, the Olympic the bottom of the line.

The things that attract me to the originals were the P90's and the enormous baseball-bat mahogany neck. Looks like they've left both of those off the modern version.

I think it looks cool and refreshingly different from everything else... Never played one tho...

...the control layout looks like it would take some getting used to...

Re: Epiphone Wilshire? Anyone tried them?

Looks wise it's really beautiful, especially in white, I didn't care for it as much in cherry red.

However I don't want to just buy a guitar for its' looks, I want it to actually be playable and sound good so, I would be really interested in what someone that has played these current reissues has to say...

I agree, but where did I EVER leave the electronics in their stock form :D
