Epiphone zakk wylde any good????

Never been a very big gibson shape and sounding guitar fan but, since a couple o weeks i've just discovered, that my guitar playing is VERY Randy Rhodes and Zakk Wylde like. Is the zakk wylde model any good? I've played a epiphone les paul custom and it sounds quite nice but those gibson pickup's don't cut it for me. Anybody taken out the emg-hz and installed the emg zw set???(in a epiphone that is).
Thx a bunch!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Epiphone zakk wylde any good????

From my experience with that model guitar I did not notice much of a different from it and a LP custom besides the EMGs.

Re: Epiphone zakk wylde any good????

i like the zakk guitar. the enck is nice and since it's maple, you get a differenbt tone form it.

im gonna be putting in the zakk set in my les paul as soon as i can get the money together. it's gonna kick ass!! :D

Re: Epiphone zakk wylde any good????

I haven't played an Epiphone yet that I like, aside from some old jazz boxes from WWII ...

Re: Epiphone zakk wylde any good????

I'm sure once you put real EMG's in it you'll be rocking out.

Especially if its so signature... ie. bullseye, other eg. handle :p

Try the ESP. Quality stuff.

Zakk uses an 81 in the bridge and an 85 in the neck of his Les Paul.

that esp has 2 81's. I'm sure the ESP sounds good tho.

I read in an interview (GuitarWorld? GuitarOne?) that his 85 in the neck crapped out on him and ended up putting an 81 in the neck as well.

In any case LyMob can replace the pickups like he originally planned, taking out the 81 in the neck and sticking in an 85. Only, with the ESP it will be more cost effective because he'll only have to replace one!

Everyone who uses emg hummies uses 81/85's.
the zakk set is an 81/85.

The epi zakk wylde is a pretty alrite guitar, i didnt mind it at all. I just didnt get along with the fixed bridge.

thats only on one of his guitars. he was playing and ozzy splashed him with a bucket of water and shorted out the neck pickup, and the only spare they had was an 81, so he put it in there

These already have 81's in them. That's what Zakk uses, no?

Just because you sound like somebody doesn't mean you have to use the kind of axe they use...

Exactly what I was thinking. I highly reccomend the ESP. I just bought one on saturday. I got the Viper which is the same guitar only an SG body instead of a LP.

Re: Epiphone zakk wylde any good????

ive never played it plugged in, but acoustically the guitar feels' pretty good. I liek the way the neck feels alot. Im willing to bet the pick ups are not as good as zakk's EMG 81/85 ( im not sure about the enck pickup model name), as the ones in the epiphone are not active pick ups. I think its an upscale model of the custom les paul made by epiphone. My only real beef is with the finish, it just looks a tad tacky.
