Epiphone ?

Hello all,
Im looking for a Epiphone, got some SD zebra sig slash pickups last night. Looking for a Epi with a slim neck, and most important, the action. I have the Korina, neck is to fat, and its like playing on a closeline. Worst action, made neck adjustments, even refreted with jombo frets, major fret buzz still. Its out of site out of mind for now, mess with it some more when I feel like it, as Im over it. SO Any suggustions (maybe the studio)? Ill order it, played everyone I think at GC, all had problems, high and low frets?? maybe save my pennys and just get a Gibson les paul:banghead::banghead:
Thanks , sorry for babbling

Re: Epiphone ?

I guess Ill log off this fourm, seems like newbies to the fourm get remarks like above. not in the click. OMG its Highschool all over. Sorry for I guess my stupid questions.

Re: Epiphone ?

Gibsons are nice. Save your money, go play as many as you can and buy the one that speaks to you.... Sorry about the above response. We have Gibson haters here on the forum.

What's your problem?! (Talk about highschool!!). Cool your jets, man. Don't be so quick to get your feelings hurt by your misconceptions.

Reread your post...You were talking about getting an Epi, then you finish by saying you'll just save and get a Gibson.

I was merely implying that you should go ahead and get an Epi. In fact, for the same price as a Gibson LP you could get 4 Epi's.

desertdude...It's not your question that was stupid...it's your attitude.

I'm not a gibson hater. In fact I own four Gibsons and have owned a half dozen more in the past. I am more of a hater of the misconception that (by virtue of its name) a gibson is much better quality than any other guitar.

Re: Epiphone ?

Yep, Gibson, well, non-lover here, and for the reasons you mentioned yourself.

Best advice, if you HAVE to have an Epi or even Gibson, go out and play AS MANY AS YOU CAN. Both are literally all over the place quality-wise.

If you want sth better, more consistent then the Michael Kelly Patriot and the Washburn Idol both of which I've known get my vote. Not tried but know more or less what to expect, Schecter Solo, ESP/LTD Eclipse plus I'm betting more that I forget now.

High marks get the Agile guitars but you can only order them online.

In short, if you don't ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO HAVE the exact Les Paul shape and the Les Paul name on the headstock, you can do A LOT better than Epiphone, heck you can do well better than Gibson.

Re: Epiphone ?

I've owned 4 Epi les Pauls... before I became a Dean luvver
one was crap, two were good, one was awesome.... they all had different necks... play a bunch get one you like.
Don't be upset at the responses... all new guys get razzed for a few years or so...

I hear you man, I thought he overreatced a little but I don't know... I guess people who hate on Gibson all day long get on my nerves. I mean, I have seen some bad ones etc etc. but I have seen some pretty bad Fenders too.

every Fender is a bad Fender.....

LMAO I'm gonna go make a few drinks now...

Re: Epiphone ?

i hate gibson as a company, but i still can't seem to shake the gibson GAS i have. right now i have my friend's 2006 epi LP standard, and i must say the neck is perfectly straight, and it sounds great. i'm also currently in the market for a sheraton.

with most brands i would say try out the lower end ones in person, because they're inconsistent, but gibsons are that way anyway. so i say play some epiphones and see which ones you like, because they're a great value.

and fender is becoming an ***hole company too.

Re: Epiphone ?

If you can define what it is about Gibson-style guitars that you desire, you stand a better chance of finding those features in the products of other manufacturers.

As some forumites know, I am keen on set neck mahogany guitars with P90s. I currently own two Gibsons in this style - one, expensive with a golden finish, the other plain brown natural Mahogany BUT… my favourite single cutaway P90 guitar is made in South Korea. Its pickups are slightly overwound by an American maker well-known for offering this option. ;) The guitar and pickups were both pre-owned from different sources. The combination (plus a slightly longer scale length) provides what I most desire in this type of electric guitar.

Re: Epiphone ?

personally, if i were going to buy a les paul copy it would be an edwards or agile.

Re: Epiphone ?

Get a Vintage Les Paul, if the brand and exact shape of a LP are not that important to you. Either way a Les Paul Epi Standard is really cheap, even brand new, so you can't go much wrong.

I wouldn't go for Gibson's though, unless it's your dream guitar. They're way too expensive. For their prices you can get specific custom made guitars from brands like Ran, for instance.

Re: Epiphone ?

yea gibsons werent ridiculously priced until maybe 5 years ago. paying $5000 for a regular production custom? fuuuuuck that!

Re: Epiphone ?

Yeah...And those custom qualities, i read reviews about the 1959 VOS against the Standard Epi Les Paul, in the guitar player magazine, and they said that if you changed the hardware of the Epi you'd probably get about 90% of the tone of the Gibson.

It's like, you can't argue about the sentimental value of owning a Gibson, if you have the money it must be awesome, but fact is that with 5000 Dollars, nowadays, you can build a perfect rig, not only having one great guitar. Investing on only one thing.

Re: Epiphone ?

a VOS is a different story. with the long tennon and actual 50s specs, i'd love to have one. but i still can't justify the price.
